Information on the Los Angeles to Seattle and back, August 22-27. A total of six days and 5 nights of vintage rail travel in a classic style, along what many consider to be the finest route of any Amtrak train along the West Coast of the United States.

Departing Los Angeles, on Thursday, August 22, behind Amtrak’s Coast Starlight. Arriving Seattle on Friday, August 23.

Layover in Seattle Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25. You will have two days to explore the Emerald City and nearby areas.

Departing Seattle on Monday, August 26 and arriving Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 27.

If you are a fan of Major League Baseball, the San Francisco Giants will be playing the Seattle Mariners both Saturday and Sunday, a short walk away from where our railcars will be parked at the King Street Station.

Prices: $4500 per person, double occupancy; $4750 per person, single occupancy. Bedrooms with upper and lower berths for double occupancy will be available in both the Redwood Empire and the Pacific Sands. Roomettes for single occupancy will be available in the Pacific Sands.

Our chartered railcars will be the business car Redwood Empire and sleeping car Pacific Sands. Meals and beverages will be provided en route. The two cars will be parked at Seattle’s King St Station and can be used as hotel space for the three nights we will be there. A continental breakfast will be available during our layover in Seattle.

More information on the Los Angeles to Seattle and back, August 22-27.

Departing Los Angeles, on Thursday, August 22, behind Amtrak’s Coast Starlight. Arriving Seattle on Friday, August 23. Layover in Seattle Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25. Departing Seattle on Monday, August 26 and arriving Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 27.

Added bonus, San Francisco Giants vs Seattle Mariners baseball option.

This trip will be limited to 16 passengers.

Our chartered railcars will be the business car Redwood Empire and sleeping car Pacific Sands. Meals and beverages will be provided en route. The two cars will be parked at Seattle’s King St Station and can be used as hotel space for the three nights we will be there.

With regrets, our planned trip for June from Chicago to Kansas City and return has been canceled.

The trip to Seattle from Los Angeles planned for August remains and we look forward to it with much anticipation.

Working on getting all the details in place for a trip from Chicago to Kansas City and back in early June. It’s a day trip by train each way. With meals and beverages aboard our chartered private railcar included. With three nights in Kansas City at a hotel near the historic Union Station.

But it does not begin or end there! In Chicago, we will visit a very special place, the Walt Disney birthplace, the home of Elias and Flora Disney.

And we will travel by train from Kansas City, to Marceline for a visit to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum. Marceline was the place that truly inspired Walt’s imagination.

Back to Kansas City, it’s a day free to explore! Enjoy some great BBQ while you’re at it.

On the final day, we depart from the same station Walt Disney did as he boarded the California Limited bound for Los Angeles in 1923. He headed west, but we are back aboard our chartered railcar eastbound to Chicago, with more great meals and beverages to enjoy.

This trip will be limited to 16 passengers aboard.

Starting to firm up plans for 2024.

First, Chicago to Kansas City and back, June 3-6. Side trip to visit Marceline, MO and the Walt Disney Hometown Museum. Layover of 2 days in Kansas City.

Second, Los Angeles to Seattle and back, August 22-27. 2 days travel each way, and 2 days layover in Seattle. Added bonus, San Francisco Giants vs Seattle Mariners baseball.

Looking ahead to 2024.

Would like to run another trip out of Los Angeles but we need a serious commitment from passengers to make it happen.

Likely candidates for destinations are either Chicago, New Orleans, Kansas City, or Seattle. We would need two cars to accommodate everyone aboard including our crew. And the cars could serve as hotel space during a layover.

We need to reach out to car owners to coordinate the charter of cars and make arrangements with Amtrak for movements. That is why we broach this subject now to start planning.

Any trip will include meals and beverages aboard the chartered railcars. Our goal is to provide a unique travel experience for our passengers in the traditions of the golden age of passenger rail service.

So, if you are interested, let us know what destination you would like to travel to and we will keep you informed as our plans firm up.

We are looking into possible private Railcar excursions from Los Angeles to San Diego and back in October. Would be an early morning departure from Los Angeles and a late night arrival from San Diego. Each trip would be limited to 16 passengers aboard. Details to come.

We really would like to run a private railcar trip in 2023.

The fact is that such trips are expensive. We also have to make a profit on such a trip.

The least expensive we can offer is a trip to San Diego from Los Angeles and back. Day trips are possible but the trains we can travel on require a very early departure and very late return. We can accommodate a maximum of 16 passengers on one rail car. That number is from 2 seatings for meals in the dining room.

A better choice is an overnight trip which allows us to offer meals and beverages aboard. And we can use an additional rail car with sleeping space to allow all 16 passengers the opportunity.

Longer distance trips become more expensive for a number of reasons; the biggest being Amtrak mileage charges - now over $4 per mile. We have a number of options but must have enough passengers to make a trip worthwhile for all.

So… the big question? Are you willing to spend to enjoy the full vintage travel experience?

We are getting the details finalized but our trip from Los Angeles to Seattle is being redirected to a new destination - San Diego!

The plan is to depart Los Angeles on the evening of Friday, September 30. Our two railcars will spend Friday and Saturday night parked downtown in San Diego and return to Los Angeles on Sunday night.

This trip will include meals and beverages aboard, as well as the use of the railcars as hotel space in San Diego.

Limited to 14 passengers.

Some folks have inquired about the possibility of an overnight train trip to a destination other than Seattle. So we are exploring options that would allow train travel of fewer miles, for 2 nights aboard the railcars.

Still working on plans for a trip or two this year.

First up, getting details together for a round trip from Chicago to Kansas City, MO for the Memorial Day Weekend.

Would still like to do a trip out of Los Angeles to somewhere. Considering options.

And if we can swing it, an East Coast adventure might be fun this fall.

Contrary to information put out by some folks, travel by private railcar is still an option!

Our hope is once the pandemic subsides that we can consider another trip to the Sunshine state.
