Accessibility at Walt Disney World: Minnie Vans Edition 😍

You've seen them, those adorable polka dot vehicles running around Disney World! Did you know they have accessible Minnie Vans too? You book them through Lyft, and it's like a mini-VIP Tour! The drivers are always amazing and full of Disney knowledge.

This accessible van has a rear entry lift and the driver has retractable tie downs on-board to make sure wheelchairs are safe and secure! There is also room for 5 more passengers and they keep a car seat onboard as well!

💡Pro Tip! One of the best uses of a Minnie Van is rope dropping Magic Kingdom. The drop off point is at the front of the bus area, allowing you to bypass the Ticket and Transportation Center. This is a real time saver! ⏰

We absolutely love the Minnie Vans! ❤️

And just like that...🎄

😍 Here's a scene from our Magic Kingdom Day!

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin was designed with one carpet that can handle a wheelchair. They open up the back seat, pull down the ramp, wheel out the regular seat, and then you wheel right in! They do make sure everything is secure. It's so amazing and works just like the other carpets in every other way! Cam enjoys going up, the quickly coming back down. The sun was pretty bright, so we didn't get many reactions from him. He was happy the entire time though!

Animal Kingdom has a similar ride in Dinoland, TriceraTop Spin. Unfortunately, it will be closing permanently when they start the new park expansion in January of 2025. Hopefully another accessible ride will be taking it's place. Dumbo the Flying Elephant in Magic Kingdom is not wheelchair accessible and riders must transfer out of their chair or ECV.

In the picture with me and Cam, you can see his AMAZING caregiver, Shamika! I am so grateful for her and all she does for us. She is part of the family and there is no way I could do so much without her!

As promised, let's talk about wheelchair accessibility at Walt Disney World! ♿

My son, Cameron (Cam), turned 21 🎉 this year and we recently celebrated him at Walt Disney World! My concern was going at his pace and getting him on things he would enjoy. I'll be honest, I'm still learning things about how to make this happen for him, but I learned a lot this trip!

Let's start with Animal Kingdom. The plan for the day was that it wasn't going to be a long day for him. His first ride was the Kilimanjaro Safari. They have a couple of buses that allow riders who are wheelchair bound to remain in their wheelchair. While we can move him out of his wheelchair, it is a LOT to do so. He is around 90 lbs and getting him out and back in his chair is also time consuming to get him settled back in the chair.

Cam enjoyed the safari and kept looking out to see animals. He loves extremes, like quick turns and bumps, so he loved the bumpiness of the ride! Lots of grins and laughs, so the safari was a win!

The cast members were amazing! They take time to insure that guests in wheelchairs are secure and safe. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them!

😍 I have a new Disney Resort Hotel in my TOP 3!

During my last visit, we stayed at Disney's BoardWalk Villas. A couple of things that make this place so special is the location, which is an easy walk to Epcot, and the things to do! You could easily spend an entire day or two just enjoying what this resort hotel has to offer!

🥳 It’s been an amazing week finally getting to celebrate my middle son turning 21 this year! Tomorrow is the saddest day of the week, check-out/travel day.

We definitely did as much as Cam could handle. He was a trooper and we were able to get him on some new rides that I can’t wait to share!

I’m sorry I didn’t post as much as I usually try to. This trip was focused on him and some of the accessibility that Disney does a great job providing for those who are wheelchair bound. I will be posting more about that once we get home!

🥰 An extra special thanks to Cam’s caregiver of 10 years, Shamika, for coming with us! We are so grateful for you!!

I have some exciting news! I'm getting ready to go on a very special trip to Walt Disney World and we are staying at the BoardWalk for the first time! We will be in a 1-bedroom accessible villa that will be similar to this room!

My middle son turned 21 this year and we are heading to WDW to celebrate him! He has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound. This trip will be all about accessibility and accommodations Disney has for people with his types of needs. Stay tuned!

A little about me...

Being a flute player in high school, and at the University of South Carolina, allowed me to take my first trips to Walt Disney World. Those first trips made me dream of going back. Once I became a mom, I couldn’t wait until I could take my children. In 2009, my middle son’s class took a trip to Walt Disney World, and my dream finally came true! After that trip, we were able to take a few more trips, each time staying at different Disney resorts.

I’m not happy unless I am planning my next Disney vacation! My husband, unfortunately, is not the Disney World fan that my boys and I are. Because of this, when you see pictures of me at Disney, you will see me and my boys along with family and friends who are making their first trips! My favorite thing to do is to travel to Walt Disney World with friends and family who have never been before. I love seeing the magic again for the first time through their eyes. Early on, I became the planner of the trips, and I LOVED it! I enjoy learning all I can about the resorts, dining, and how to navigate the parks. I am constantly looking for new tips and tricks to help me plan. I also have experience visiting Walt Disney World with a child who has special needs. I love to give tips on navigating the parks and planning fun things that include a special needs family member and make things a bit easier.

After planning trips for my family and friends, I decided that all this knowledge needed to be put to good use. So, I set out to find my dream job --Planning Disney trips! Now here I am, ready to help you plan your trip!

I promise to help take the stress out of trying to figure it all out. The best thing about it is, my services are FREE! I can’t wait to start making your dream of a magical Disney vacation come true!
