Presenting the 2024 Tangopolitan Women’s Trip to Buenos Aires 🇦🇷

This trip is based on Vivi Ortelli’s self-engineered Tangopolitan Experience: an immersive, 9-day transformative program based on the distinctions of Tango. We explore Tango both in theory and in practice, and how we can apply its philosophies to our daily lives. Whether you have been dancing for years or don’t dance at all – this is a once-in-a-lifetime journey that can change how you see yourself, the world, and your place in it.

The gaucho is a fixture of Argentine folklore, romanticized by South American writers towards the end of the 19th century and into modernity. Resembling the American cowboy, gauchos were nomadic horsemen of great skill and greater bravery, reputed to be adept cattle-drivers and highly resistant to authority. Due to Argentina’s status as a developing country at the time, gauchos’ ways and exploits were quickly mythologized, with hard facts often becoming lost beneath legend. One such gaucho, today venerated largely in the provinces of Corrientes, Chaco, and northern Santa Fe, was the outlaw commonly known as Gauchito Gil.

Originating in the working-class districts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, Uruguay, tango came to be as a result of cultural mixing between European immigrants and former African slaves as early as the late 18th century. Gaining prominence throughout the 1800s, tango finally broke onto the international stage in the 20th century, becoming applauded and reviled in equal measure throughout the Western world for its sexual overtones. Tango has since endured the ebb and flow of political turmoil and artistic taste around the world, splintering and spiraling into countless inspirations and subgenres in its venerable history.

Travel + Leisure Magazine just released their World’s Best Awards, and Argentina placed - twice! Yes, Buenos Aires and Mendoza made the esteemed publication’s ranking for Favorite Cities of Central and South America. Buenos Aires, the proverbial “Paris of South America”, was noted for its rich architectural variety, including such buildings as the Palace of Justice and the National College of Buenos Aires, and for historic street corners and eateries serving generations of notable Argentines. Mendoza, on the other hand, houses the nation’s world-renowned wine country, a lovely urban center, and breathtaking mountain scenery from every angle.

La Boca is a barrio located near the Port of Buenos Aires, a cultural melting pot built by the arrival of immigrants to the New World throughout the 20th century. It is characterized by its population’s fighting workers’ spirit, known as la garra, and is home to Boca Juniors FC and its stadium, popularly known as La Bombonera (“the bonbon box”). La Boca is also home to Caminito (“the little path”), a street museum known for its brightly painted houses and inspiration of the tango of the same name by Juan de Dios Filiberto. The neighborhood of San Telmo, Buenos Aires, is known throughout the country as a center for handmade crafts, antiques, and cultural events. Every Sunday since 1970, the San Telmo Fair’s 270 stands offer their wares to aficionados and tourists alike.
However, one permanent resident of San Telmo has been offering their services for far longer than fifty years –– try 273.
Juan Carlos Pallarols is the latest member of the esteemed Pallarols family to offer silversmithing services to all citizens of Buenos Aires. His family first moved their business to Argentina from Spain in 1804, and ever since, they have outfitted families, religious institutions, fine art enthusiasts, and even Pope Francis with fine handcrafted works of silver. The Pallarols shop is a staple of the San Telmo neighborhood, and serves a dual purpose as a workshop and a museum of the family’s history and works.
Visit the San Telmo neighborhood today, and possibly commission the finest worksmith in the Land of La Plata, when you visit www.tangopolitan.com.

In Argentina, the unofficial religion of all people is soccer.
Individuals, families, even entire neighborhoods carry their team’s colors as a badge of honor, no matter how strong or weak their season. Visiting one’s stadium on game day is akin to a pilgrimage, a holy experience in which electricity flows from moment to moment, from player to fan and back.
Experience the unleashed energy of Argentinean soccer at La Bombonera (Boca Juniors’ home stadium) or El Monumental (River Plate’s home stadium) today, either with the beloved sports fan(s) in your life, or on a solo journey to find your own sports glory. Visit www.tangopolitan.com today, and let’s chat about how we can tailor Buenos Aires to you.

We spent three months in Buenos Aires this year, mostly because ice cream in Argentina is extraordinary and decadent.
My favorite is of course, DULCE DE LECHE and its many variations: with pieces of chocolate, with Oreos, with white chocolate pieces, or mixed with meringue. Second place is for CHOCOLATE, of which exists an entire spectrum: bitter, white, with cashews, almonds, raisins, mixed with fruits like orange, raspberry, figs, or with spirits like rum, Cointreau, cassis liqueur, or in mousse or souffle… and other global variants.

Buenos Aires Travel Design

Hi, I’m Vivi, and I help adventurous souls experience Buenos Aires from the perspective of a local.

My whole life has been an adventure.

When I was 25, and halfway through college, in Buenos Aires, I met a guy called Rony.

In 8 days he asked me to move in with him. I left everything - school, work, my family and my friends in Buenos Aires and moved to join him and his two children (aged 6 and 10) in Minnesota, USA
