20-30 anglers on Otisco Lake today, clustered near dam on north end near Amber. Perfect conditions: 22 degrees, sunny, light wind 4-6" ice til you hit the narrows then it gets dicey. Bluegill, largemouth, and these bad boys (tip up belongs to Mike Lang of Ontario NY). Wait for it....

Siatar Creech, of South Glens Falls, N.Y., recently caught this impressive, 13-pound catfish at Lock 6 on the Champlain Canal in Schuylerville in Saratoga County. He said that he caught it using "two-day-old chicken liver" as bait and that he released it after these photos were taken.
Bob Walker, of Syracuse, shared these eye-opening photos this week of hummingbird moths that he photographed through the back window of his house. He said he used his "old trusty Canon 70D and my 70mm-200mm f/28 L II Canon lens. My images were captured at ISO 1600,f/4, at a shutter speed of 1600. I hope this shows some folks you don’t necessarily need the latest and the greatest. Sometimes if you just have a simple point and shoot camera you can capture amazing images right in your own backyard.
He added: "It seems lately there has been an influx of Hummingbird Moths being sighted. People are telling me almost daily about their spottings. Fortunately with my wife's gardening we have them coming right to our plants just outside our back window. This gives me the opportunity to capture some images of them while inside our air conditioned home. You might be able to do the same..":
The summer LOC Derby on Lake Ontario and the Niagara River is producing some big fish as it continues through July 25. Three of the top 4 salmon – including the grand prize leader – come from the western part of the lake as of this past week, according to this week's Niagara Falls USA Fishing Forecast . 1. Current leader is a 30-pound, 7-ounce salmon caught by Dave Miller of Lancaster on cut bait while fishing out of Wilson with Capt. Lou Tepas. 2. Top brown is 16 pounds, 3 ounces reeled in by Kim Bickel of Newfane fishing out of Olcott. 3. First place walleye is from the Niagara River, a 10-pound, 10-ounce ‘eye reeled in by Burt Lickers of Niagara Falls. The top lake trout (not pictured) is from Henderson harbor at 20 pounds, 11 ounces weighed in by Rosalie Trump of Sackets Harbor. The tournament features $33,550 in cash prizes. The grand prize for the largest salmon is $10,000. See loc.org for more.
There's nothing like getting out and fishing with your father. Stephen Sarsick got out on the water recently with his dad, fishing for striped bass on the Hudson River. His father, Ron Sarsick, of Charlton, caught and released an impressive 38-inch striped bass (31 pounds) using a live herring as bait. Ron will be 86 this month, his son said.
Louis Michael Long, of Buffalo, shared these photos of him battling a 50.5-inch musky he caught on June 19 on the Upper Niagara River. He was fishing at the time with buddy, Tony Scime, also of Buffalo. Long and Schime are both members of the Niagara Muskie Association, said the fish was quickly measured and then released. He wrote; "Thanks to Tony for giving me the opportunity. Tony is a musky master!"
