The Colorado Vacation Directory Camping, Cabins, Fun Things To Do Your guide to the best places to stay & fun things to do in Colorado! Enjoy our Colorado Maps as you plan your next vacation.

Who we are: My family has been promoting vacationing in Colorado since the late 1970s. My parents started a print Directory in 1980 after publishing a Colorado map for 2 years. We started our web site in 1997, long before google became the search engine that changed the world. I joined the family business full time when I was 21. My husband and I took over the family business in 2004. We are a mom

and pop Colorado business dedicated to promoting mom and pop vacation businesses. We believe that vacationers need direct contact with on-site business owners; so we focus on direct links and direct phone numbers.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to Support America's Byways!
Colorado has 26 designated Scenic and Historic byways.
13 have also been designated by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as America's Byways®, which gives Colorado more national designations than any other state.
10 are National Forest Scenic Byways and 3 are Bureau of Land Management Back Country Byways.
https://www.scenic.org/take-action/take-action-support-americas-scenic-byways/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=AM_NEWS&sourceid=1085851&emci=a4c157fb-35f5-ef11-90cb-0022482a94f4&emdi=527d93ab-10f6-ef11-90cb-0022482a93b5&ceid=3647204
After sitting dormant for nearly a decade, the National Scenic Byways Program was revived in 2019 thanks to Scenic America’s advocacy work, fueled by supporters like you. Since then, America’s byways have received nearly $50 million in federal funding, helping support local economies through tourism and job creation, and protecting the scenic beauty of our highways and roadsides. Tell Congress to support America's Byways by providing critical funding in their FY26 THUD funding bill!

Colorado’s national parks face uncertainty amid President Trump’s hiring freeze, staffing instability
Headline from Tuesday, February 18th 2025 The Denver Post
Visitors to America’s most beloved public lands could find dirty bathrooms, unmaintained trails and closure signs on visitor centers and campgrounds if a federal hiring freeze does not thaw before hundreds of millions of people flock to national parks for the summer, Elise Schmelzer reports.
The hiring freeze implemented Jan. 20 byPresident Donald J. Trump new administration resulted in the U.S. National Park Service rescinding thousands of job offers to the seasonal employees who serve as the backbone of the parks system during its busiest months. Typically, the service hires more than 6,000 seasonal employees across the 433 sites it manages, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Mesa Verde National Park and 11 other sites in Colorado.

Please add your voice to the discussion, Our National Parks, Monuments, and Grasslands are part of what makes a Colorado Vacation an Outdoor Experience that connections generations of people who have lived, loved and played on this land we call Colorado. WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep are the largest wild sheep in North America. They thrive along Colorado's steep cliffs and rugged mountainsides. Bighorn sheep thrive in rocky terrain with clear visibility and an uphill escape route. They tend to avoid wooded areas where their vision is obscured as their defense from predators is sight and flight.
Bighorns choose grassy southwest-facing slopes, particularly in winter, where sun and wind keep grasses clear from snow.
See them along the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Georgetown, Colorado, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Chalk Creek Canyon near Buena Vista.

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: “Now, Deer, where are we going today?” Deer replies, “Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. I love HUMAN WATCHING; they come in so many shapes, colors, and sizes. I just wish they would stop pointing at us. Time to move on...” “Okey Deer.”

The Garden of the Gods Park can offer magical snow-capped red rocks from November through March and as late as April. That being said, you are likely to experience plenty of sun during the winter. Just be sure to wear a warm coat, hat, and gloves; snow boots are recommended! After your hike, stop at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post for a hot drink and their famous Buffalo Burger!
