After the recent hurricanes, the beautiful preserve near St. Pete Beach is back, and our passionate ecotour guides are excited to return to work. By joining us, you’re not only exploring Florida’s resilience and natural beauty but also supporting a local small business and the dedicated staff who make these experiences possible.

Our incredible team of guides and staff greatly miss sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the environment with our guests and paddling the beautiful Shell Key Preserve! ☀️

Unfortunately, our Shell Key Preserve location will remain closed until further notice while Pinellas County works on post-hurricane clean up in the preserve. 🏝️

Once the preserve reopens and the waterways are safe, we’ll be back out adventuring and educating! Until then, we will be wishing our community strength and a speedy recovery following Milton and Helene. 🫶

Wishing all of our neighbors around St. Petersburg, families and small businesses, who experienced major losses a speedy recovery from Hurricane Helene!

We will remain closed through Sunday, October 6th and hope to resume operations as soon as conditions in the preserve improve.

Today we are giving a special shoutout during these difficult times to one of our amazing team members, Chris! Chris has been with us from the very beginning, for over 4.5 years! In that time he has guided over 1,000 tours at Shell Key Preserve and has amassed at least 1,500 5-Star reviews from raving guests on his kayak tours!

Chris has a passion and a deep connection to Shell Key Preserve and loves sharing his wealth of knowledge with everyone on his tours! He loves watching smiles light up as guests encounter wildlife and as first time kayakers slowly get more comfortable on the water as the tour progresses!

Unfortunately, his entire home was devastated due to flooding from Hurricane Helene, as she wrecked through the Tampa Bay Area. Him, his partner, and two dogs are currently displaced from their home and have a long road ahead to recovery. A dear friend of his has started a fundraiser for Chris and his family to help aid in the tragic loss of their home and all of their belongings. If you feel called and are able to help, please do! We appreciate any and help during these difficult times!

Did you know today is International Manatee Day!? ☺️

Manatees inhabit Shell Key Preserve in the warm summer months, enjoying the protected waters and rich seagrass beds! When the water temperatures decrease in the fall they migrate south to warmer water temperatures or into Florida’s beautiful fresh water springs!

Unfortunately, manatees can be negatively impacted by human encounters when they are touched, chased, or fed fresh water. The leading cause of manatee mortality is from injuries cause by boat strikes. At Shell Key, we strive to promote passive observation, enjoying these magical creatures from a safe distance!

Get Up And Go Kayaking started as a small idea in the summer of 2016. With so many people looking to enjoy the beautiful waters of Florida, it was no doubt that guests would love experiencing them in a completely clear kayak.

Now with over 120,000,000 views on Facebook and social media, the company has surpassed expectations and continues to expand. In 2019, Get Up And Go Kayaking - Tampa Bay was launched by the Bryon Buzzi (the brother of Justin Buzzi who started it all), his wife Amber Buzzi, and her parents Mark and Penny Danielecki. Our location in Tampa Bay, paddling through Shell Key Preserve, is one of 7 different Get Up And Go Kayaking locations that showcase unique wildlife, marine life, and nature. There’s no shortage of memories to be made.

There’s nothing quite as exciting as being able to enjoy outdoor recreation with as little viewing impediment as possible. Our clear kayaks give guests a perspective not often available when it comes to water sports. With tours available in the beautiful clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico, it’s clear why this has become such a big hit!
