NEW TRIP REPORT
-
Alaska Program Director Tom Melvin recently traveled back to Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, where he had nothing short of an exceptional visitation.
"Over the years we’ve had multiple Yellow Dog team members out to check in, and countless travelers stay with them each summer season. I knew that the program had continued to develop and improve, but after the recent experience, I was absolutely blown away and did not expect it to be THIS GOOD."

In the fifth full-length fly fishing film from Confluence Films, American angler Camille Egdorf, and South African guides Gerhard Laubscher and Tim Babich team up for an amazing journey and a return to the remote and uninhabited Seychelles atoll of Providence. The film chronicles the first trip back to Providence Atoll since the waters were closed to all fishermen and boat access in 2010 due to the threats and activities of pirates operating out of Somalia. The team returned in October of 2015, spending three weeks exploring the atoll and fishing for multiple flats species including giant trevally, bluefin trevally, bumphead parrotfish, bonefish, Indo-Pacific permit, triggerfish and more. An amazing story of adventure, piracy, challenging fish, the history of the area and untouched flats.

Pretty fish with an awful attitude. You better come prepared, because the largest of the peacocks -- Cichla Temensis - is going to make you earn it.

This August saw the third year of the Xcalak Community Engagement Project, jointly funded by YDCCF and The Xflats. Started in the Summer of 2022, this year presented a major expansion with a model that also supports year-round English and arts program for the children of Xcalak.
The weeklong project featured increasingly advanced English lessons for adults, while children ages 3-16 attended a day camp in the village at the new “Esperanza de Vida,” a community-built structure that will support year-round programming.
The Xcalak Community Engagement Project is jointly funded by YDCCF and The Xflats through the YDCCF Lodge Partner Program. We extend a huge thanks to all of the teachers, volunteers, and all those who make this ever-growing program possible!

Evolution of an Angler
--
Things were a lot different when first met while pursuing golden mahseer abroad. From a young, relatively green angler and guide to an authority figure for one of the most challenging species to target on fly, a lot has changed over the last decade.
How have you grown as an angler over the last ten years?

Sea Run
--
Beyond its magnificent backdrops and low fishing pressure, Iceland's fishing season is quite dynamic and offers exceptional variety as the months pass. Large, resident brown trout and Arctic char are available for the entirety of the fishing season, while sea run trout and Atlantic salmon make their yearly trek into and out of the river systems. Conditions, fishing targets, and tactics can and do change dramatically from month month, or sometimes, day to day. With that said, there is one thing that remains consistent: the quality of this amazing fishery.

Scorpion Atoll is one of the most isolated and untouched fisheries in the entire Caribbean, reminiscent of Christmas Island or the Seychelles due to its remote and pristine flats. Due to marine park designation of the atoll, commercial fishing is strictly limited providing better than average fish numbers and size potential. Generally, the bonefish and permit are larger than their counterparts in Ascension Bay, and other species can be targeted including barracudas, triggerfish, sharks, amberjacks, mutton snappers, and more.
This fall, a limited number of anglers will once again have the opportunity to experience this remarkable place via a liveaboard. These spots won't last long.

Rarely do big, aggressive apex predators grow up to also be downright beautiful fish — but golden dorado are certainly an exception.

What's not to admire about giant trevally? Big, powerful, and a beautiful fish in the right light!
📸:
It is hard to believe, but the autumn season is fast approaching. In short time, waning daylight and brisk mornings will sound the dinner bell for trout and other freshwater species around the U.S. and beyond, bringing along with it some of the year's most enjoyable hatches and fishing conditions.
