I wonder how high and far away the goal would have to be for a 6ft 200 lb player ... to equal what this young guy is accomplishing.

Excellent article. Some wild ideas and some clear facts about how the game is evolving. As has happened numerous times along the way to keep some balance... it's time for another rule adjustment imo.

In an excerpt from "SprawlBall," Kirk Goldsberry illustrates four ways to make the 3-ball more interesting.

This is a good guy

After a decade in the NBA's minor league, Andre Ingram finally got his shot — and he made it count. By the game's end, the rookie with the gray-speckled hair had earned a chorus of "MVP" chants.

Not a defensive foul.

Imo, refs are not keeping up with the game. Offensive players are (wisely, because they continue to get away with it) initiating way more contact than before ... while refs are still going by the old rule of thumb that most any contact is a defensive foul. That no longer fits. The game has changed.

Good defense is difficult and needs to be protected /rewarded. If both have established their line of movement then the foul should be on whoever initiates the contact .. not an automatic defense foul.

I remember very clearly Dick teaching and demonstrating this from age 11 on.

Its like a defensive jab .. you jab towards the ball then lunge toward their strong hand. The key is to stay low and go. Don't wait to react to them switching hands .. that'll be too late.

This defensive maneuver really might get you a game-winning steal someday. Because of the psychology behind it, it has a better chance of working a...
