Late summer light over the Tongass Narrows is pretty magical. If you look very closely, you can see Guard Island Lighthouse way off in the distance.
Are you as mesmerized as we are? We always love the time of year when the jellyfish bloom. We could sit on the dock watching them all day.
No matter the weather, if you keep your eyes out, you might just find yourself in the middle of an incredible wildlife sighting. We’re guessing these guests, who joined our tour a few days ago on a VERY rainy day, were probably not expecting such a show from this pod of killer whales!

Happy Sunday! Anyone fancy themselves a peek at some humpback whales this morning?
The crew on the Lighthouse Endeavor encountered these two beauties on their first tour of the day. We could say our day is off to a great start!

Whale hello there!
Guests have an approximate 25% chance of seeing a whale while on our tour, which means each encounter is extra special. With their feeding grounds in Juneau and their birthing grounds in Hawaii, most of the humpback whales we see are simply passing through on their way to another destination. We never know when we’re going to see a whale, but we always feel lucky when we do!

It’s always a good day when we’re lucky enough to have a whale sighting! This beautiful pod of orcas showed up for guests while cruising along the shore on board the Lighthouse Endeavor. Does it get any better?

Did you know we also host private events on our tour boats? While our daily operations are primarily focused on tours for guests visiting Alaska, we LOVE getting the opportunity to host locals on board! We’ve hosted birthday parties, baby showers, wedding week cruises, and even a wedding reception.
Here’s a glimpse of one of our favorite marine birthday parties, which featured the amazing talents of vocal duo (Capt) Kyle & Jillian as entertainment for the guests.
We often tell guests to keep an eye out throughout our tour route for wildlife sightings, because we never know what we might see. The more eyes we have looking, the better chances we have of spotting the many creatures that make our region home.
In this case, guests were lucky enough to see a mature American bald eagle & a juvenile American bald eagle having a chat about a fresh bit of dinner.

Today’s beautiful but not so cuddly neighbor is the Lion’s Mane Jellyfish. Locally we refer to them as red jellies.
This is just a baby - we often see them the size of tires. The sting is deadly to its prey and uncomfortable for unsuspecting humans. It feels like a very concentrated sunburn.
This neighbor we love - from a distance.
