“Tropical retreat! The details put into this place is outstanding! Beautiful pool and lounging area with an outdoor TV and shower! Very clean. Side porch was great for the dogs to go potty and relax when bugs got bad. We even played Scrabble that was on the porch table! My son and girlfriend stayed in the pool house, and we watched some basketball in there after dinner one night. Huge theatre setting in pool house! Fabulous! We never showered inside! Great tropical retreat close to town and beaches!” ~ J.F.

“🌞We love your home. I love that there are no glass tables. I love that there are plenty of throws to cover furniture.... Pearl doesn’t shed but dog germs, you get it.🫅I loved watching Bohemian Rhapsody in the pool house.🩵We love the pool. I love the outside covered great room for so many reasons.🌴Oh, and your landscaping is gorgeous. It really makes me feel like I’m in a tropical cottage. What is the tree by the hammock with the fragrant blooms?🌺 🖼 And your interior design.....

Our beautiful Hong Kong Orchid tree, that has sustained damage in every major hurricane, continues to overcome adversity and is starting to bloom! Each year this tree prevails and brings us so much happiness (and shade). 😁 We are grateful every November to see its first flowers.

Wow!

Sarasota County Lifeguards just rescued an injured juvenile flamingo at Siesta Key Beach! This is pretty crazy because there are not normally flamingos in this part of Florida.

Hurricane Idalia blew in all kinds of flamingos during the storm. It’s believed that all of these flamingos are from Mexico or islands in the Caribbean! Some experts believe that the birds are from the Yucatan, that they were traveling from Mexico to Cuba, and that Idalia simply blew them off course.

No one knows exactly how many of the great omnivores are in Florida right now, but some ornithologists have speculated on social media that there may be as many as 70 of the pink-and-gray birds that were blown off course.

An American flamingo hangs out with a flock of American white pelicans in the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in the 10,000 Islands on Friday, Jan.14, 2022. Dozens of flamingos were reported across the west coast of Florida Wednesday as Hurricane Idalia passed to the north.

This isn’t the first time flamingos or other exotic birds have been blown to Florida during a hurricane or tropical storm. Many flew in with Hurricane Michael in 2018 and have not left. No one’s really sure how they’d get home, or where home even is located.

Guest Appreciation!

“The house is so beautiful with lots of big windows! Comfortable inside - everything you could possibly need. The office was perfect since my husband had to work a few days (it’s 100x better than his office at home!) There are two fenced in yards which were perfect for our two Labradors! The outdoor space is the cherry on top! I enjoyed grilling burgers & dogs, and using the Green Egg smoker for the first time to smoke baby back ribs and a pork shoulder. With some expert guidance from the host, my smoker experience was perfect! I love this outdoor kitchen and the sink makes for easy clean up. The outdoor lounging area around the fire table is so comfortable and a nice way to be outside but out of the sun. The TV outside is fantastic. The pool was so nice. The water was very warm however. But when I got out of the pool I felt cool and refreshed. Outdoor shower is amazing! We watched a movie in surround sound in the pool house one night! So fun! Excellent, outstanding vacation at this home!” ~ P.W.

Merry Christmas week from Florida!

After Hurricane Ian, we were forced to trim our Hong Kong Orchid way back. This tree has survived 2 major hurricanes since we planted it. The first one, Hurricane Irma, pulled it’s roots right out of the ground.

We received this photo from our guests, currently staying at Laurel Bungalow, and we’re so overjoyed to see it blooming again right on schedule! We continue to fight for this tree after every storm and, in return, it continues to bring us beauty and shade. 🥰🥰🥰

Laurel Bungalow is nestled in the Venice Edgewood district of Venice. In a recent poll, Venice Edgewood was rated one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Venice, coming in second behind the island of Venice (determined by Walkscore). We love our neighborhood!

For all who have reached out to check on us, we are grateful to report that Laurel Bungalow suffered minimal cosmetic damages as a result of Hurricane Ian. We have done a lot of clean up of the yard, landscape & pool, repaired some fencing and are still without power. FPL linemen are in the neighborhood and we expect to have power back by next week.
