Who would have known Morocco has well preserved Roman ruins and great wines! On the way to Fes, we stopped by Volublis, then visited Volubilia Winery. Our fantastic guide Hassan provided by Experience Morocco, is friends with Mohammed the winery manager who was very hip and cosmopolitan. A Berber, raised in a small town near Algeria, his aunt brought him to Meknes, the main wine region in Morocco. We sat down and chatted with him for 1.5 hours of interesting conversation. Together we went they a substantial quantity of his delicious wines! We had fun! 🍷

We next did a road trip from Barcelona to the Basque Coast, and explored the Spanish Pyrenees. It is full of natural beauty and many small medieval towns and not to mention world class food and wine. Our hotel was in Barosse, near Jaca, located in the Spanish foothills of the Pyrenees in the District of Aragon, which is rich in history. Hotel Barosse was So very charming in an old Basque building. Lovely rooms (just 5), amazing cuisine, incredibly gracious and warm host couple – Jose and Gustavo. We both give it 5 stars!

More of Menorca…The nearby city of Ciutadella is very charming. “Ciutadella” means “citadel.” It is an old port city fortified by ramparts, with an old town area having a cathedral, and narrow streets and lanes lined with boutiques, bars, restaurants, galleries, and so on.

We started our Balearic journey in Valledemossa - an absolutely charming village in western Mallorca. The view from was stunning, nestled into the mountains-cape of olive orchards, and a short 5 minute walk away to the picturesque village center where Chopin made his home. An absolute must if you’re in the Baleares!

Rising before dawn for the breathtaking beauty of the Serengeti with a hot air balloon flight, a dazzle of zebras, a herd of wildebeest, an elephant crossing the Mara River, a male ostrich in heat, a croc nibbling remains of a wildebeest, a beautiful leopard - a fine way to end our stay on the endless plains, famously called the Serengeti. Last stop is Zanzibar!! We sure need a little r & r after 11 nights of safari!

After Ngorongoro Crater we flew on a clear sunny day to the northern Serengeti near the Mara River and the Kenya border. We stayed 3 nights at AndBeyond’s Serengeti Under Canvas. A roving camp following the Great Migration

The safari in the Serengeti is the real deal. “Serengeti” is the Swahili word meaning “endless plain”. And it is. But not a boring plain like Nebraska with 700 miles of corn fields. It is endlessly varied and beautiful. Our safari there was exhausting but exhilarating!

After a 25 minute flight and a 3.5 hour game drive we arrived at AndBeyonds Lake Manyara Tree lodge, a treasure hidden the jungle. Chris calls it opulence in the jungle! The Lake Manyara National Park is home to the world famous tree climbing lyons and vast array of wildlife. Delicious food and unbelievable hospitality at this Magical place in the bush!

After 32 hours of travel we arrived in Arusha where we enjoyed staying at Elewana Coffee Lodge Plantation getting over jet lag and getting excited about our safari with AndBeyond!

We just visited Death Valley! March is one of the best times to be there cause it’s warm and sunny and not blistering hot yet! The scenery is stunning; lots of incredible, and varied hiking. Our favorite was Mosaic Canyon which took us through walls of marble. Artists Drive should not be missed! Both the Inn at Death Valley and Ranch at Death Valley are great options to stay at.
