As we continue our robust return to travel, many changes are happening and as your dedicated travel advisor, I’d like to keep you informed and up to date as you plan your next vacation. The CDC has lowered its risk warning for cruises from a Level 3 to Level 2 meaning “moderate” for those who are fully vaccinated. As the number of covid-19 cases have dropped due to the excellent onboard protocols, the CDC also relaxed its guidelines for cruise ships that opted into the voluntary covid-19 cruise program, which includes 110 ships and all major cruise lines. What does that mean for you? Here are some key takeaways and things to look forward to as you prepare to book your next destination: •The agency’s updated guidance enables the restart or more relaxed operation of a variety of cruise activities, such as shore excursions and shipboard experiences like culinary classes and galley tours. This is great news and allows guests to have a more immersive experience onboard. •A requirement for physical distancing during shore excursions and transportation is now just a recommendation for ships under the CDC voluntary program, all of which require a high level of vaccination. •Another change means that close contacts of COVID-positive guests may be permitted to remain in their original stateroom if they are disembarking within 36 hours. This will allow less disruption to your experience should you be exposed to someone who tests positive. Cruise Lines International Association welcomed the update, calling it an acknowledgment of 'the effectiveness of the cruise lines in their ability to create an environment that provides one of the highest levels of COVID-19 mitigation and reflect the improvements in the public health landscape."
