Rick Steves: "Here I am, heading off to Europe the day after high school graduation in 1973 β€” with a budget of $3 a day, a ten-week Eurail pass in my pocket, and the biggest backpack I could find, jam-packed. I came home with no money, a malnourished body, and an enduring love of Europe."

You don't have to carry an overloaded backpack when in today's travel era when everything you can possibly need is readily available throughout Europe.

Don't put off traveling to Spain and Portugal when you can do it while you're healthy. It only takes some pre-planning and knowing where to go to get information to make your best trip plans.

Please share this post with your friends on your page and let them add their traveling tips Portugal and Spain.

Setas de Sevilla ("Mushrooms of Seville") or Las Setas ("The Mushrooms"), initially titled Metropol Parasol, is a large, predominantly wood structure located at La EncarnaciΓ³n square in the old quarter of Seville, Spain. It accommodates a traditional market, restaurants, a performance square, archaeological museum β€” and 'rooftop' terrace with a panoramic view of Seville's old city.

Guided Spain Tour in Cordoba, Spain

The bell tower of the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba is only the upper portion of the tower. The lower part is the original minaret of what was one of the Iberian Peninsula's most impressive mosques. It was built continuously form the 9th to the 13th century when under Moorish occupation, with a cathedral inside the mosque built in the 16th century.

Sharing pictures from the past is such a nice thing to do especially when we get to see how people from the past also enjoyed life, just like we do today.

This is a picture taken in a very popular restaurant at the turn of the 1900s, in Lisbon.

The first week of the lamprey season, in a restaurant in Lisbon. "Manjar" is appreciated by many people.

For our last full day in Portugal, we took the ferry boat across the Tejo River from to where we had lunch at one of the small and very traditional Portuguese restaurants along the redeveloped center pedestrian walkway from the boat docks.

The dish is called Chocos fritas, which are named abalone in English, fried in a light batter. These are as fresh as you can get because they get all of their seafood from nearby fisherman along the coast on the opposite side of the river from Lisbon.

If you have an opportunity and extra time, take the ferry boat from Cais do SodrΓ© + find a restaurant that looks appealing. It would be very difficult to go wrong in any of the places. Where we had this plate is found here in Cacilhas, Portugal

Rossio Square in Lisbon.

Historically, up to today as well, this has always been Lisbon's main square.

Throughout history this has seen some of this seminal events of Portugal's history and remains one of the most popular areas for residents and tourists alike.

In these photographs you see the famous Rossio train station in the Neo-manuelino architectural style the statue of the King Pedro the 4th and University students performing and raising money for their University fees; they are called " tuna".

The phenomenon β€˜Tuna’ is specific to the Iberian Peninsula. The tradition originated in the 13th century as a means for students to earn money or food.

Tunas play folkish tunes, with guitars, mandolin, tambourine, ukulele, accordion, drums and vocals.

Christmas in Portugal and that means bacalhāo, or in English, cod fish. Of course, there are many traditions in Portugal that are remnants of centuries of this fascinating culture and so there are also many different explanations, from vastly different sources and "experts".

Here is our version which seems to hold water... Pun intended...

In ancient times cod fish was an abundant fish and that was easy to transport due to being heavily salted, thus preserving, and it was able to be shipped around to the interior parts of the country at a time of no refrigeration.

It was also in line with the omnipotent Catholic churches teaching that you couldn't eat fish on certain holy days.

Fast forward to present time, cod fish is not just eating around the holidays but all year round, however, it is traditional for most homes that can afford it to serve cod fish at the holidays, especially at Christmas time.

If you happen to find yourself in portugal, you will definitely need to try a codfish dish as they say there are a thousand ways to prepare it. We're not going to try to list them. 🀣

Bom Natal!

On our second to the last day with our small group tour to Spain, we visited the bullfighting ring.

The Plaza de Toros de Sevilla is the largest and most important arena for bullfighting in Spain. For example, the largest bullfighting festival in the world is held during the festival week Feria de Abril. The full name is "La Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla". The oval arena is located in the El Arenal harbour district, was built in the 18th century and can accommodate 13,000 spectators. The Plaza de Toros has a unique Baroque façade, dating from 1762-1881.

It's definitely worth visiting for the sheer auty and gracefulness of the architecture which is one of the outstanding examples of seville's greatest monuments. This is just one of the many spectacular places our small group has visited on this private tour.

in Seville and had an opportunity to pass by the consulate of Portugal, located next to the Plaza of EspaΓ±a, built between 1928 and 1929 on the occasion of the Ibero- American exhibition of 1929.

Noticed the very large and prominent roof, which is actually modeled on a very famous room in the national Palace of Sintra, the so-called Sala dos BrazΓ΅es, built between the years 1517-18 by the King Manuel I, where he placed on the ceiling the coat of arms of the families in Portugal who served as Nobles of the Realm.

On day six of our private small group tour, we started in Seville after arriving last night by train.

Here are just a few candid shots that our tour leader took throughout the afternoon. We in fact visited some beautiful places and we're so thankful for the Spain and Portugal Guided Tours for arranging such a wonderful and informative day in Seville.

We're really excited for the next few days in Seville, Cordoba and then Arcos de La Frontera!

When you're in Madrid as a tourist, you can also pretend that you are a real Madrilleno by finding places to eat, because eating in Spain is part of their culture; its not just eating... we mean feasting!

Caracola: An iconic restaurant with a short but very Spanish menu, Caracola is great spot to get into some tortilla de patatas and tarta de queso, or cheesecake.

We recommend one of the creamy, decadent cheesecakes on offer: From the cheesecakes made with pistachios, yuzu, Belgian chocolate, and Lotus Biscoff, you won’t know where to start (or where to stop!).

You can find Caracola’s brand-new shop located in Chueca (Plaza de Chueca, 4)
