Researchers in the South want people to report Monarch butterfly sightings this winter as more butterflies seem to skip the long migration to breeding grounds in Mexico.

They are so hard to find. You can hear them but don't see them unless they are feeding close by. They move so fast.

We participated in the Minneapolis Monarch Festival-Festival de la Monarca on Saturday and it was a hit. I'm really proud of the team Adrian Medina Patty Rodriguez Mitzi and Juan, Sue Dewane and Jane Lazarevic and last but not least Brad Nelson and Camilo for their help. . .throughout the long day. We put together a display to show folks what it's like in the forests of Mexico during the migration. It was gorgeous. We'll be back next year! Participamos en el Minneapolis Monarch Festival-Festival de la Monarca el sábado y fue un éxito. Estoy muy orgulloso del equipo Adrian Medina Patty Rodriguez Mitzi y Juan, Sue Dewane y Jane Lazarevic y por último, pero no menos importante, Brad Nelson y Camilo por su ayuda... durante todo el largo día. Armamos una exhibición para mostrarle a la gente cómo es en los bosques de México durante la migración. Fue precioso. ¡Volveremos el año que viene!

We were swarmed by a flutter (millions) of Monarch butterflies as we were on our way to the Sanctuary. I was able to capture this behavior called "puddling" where Monarchs drink from muddy puddles for the minerals and nutrients they'll need for breeding as they leave their winter homes.

on the trail at El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. There were millions of butterflies in the air on the day we visited. it was warm and sunny and the Monarchs greeted us as we arrived.

we rode horseback to 10300 to see the colonies in the trees closeup. It's quite amazing and because of the warm sunshine the butterflies were filling the air.
