CONFIDENCE IS INCREASING for a tropical cyclone or even a in the Gulf of Mexico late next week! Confidence is the track is quite low after NOV 6, but we knew a large amplitude, neutrally tilted trough would pull a hurricane north from the western Caribbean with this late season pattern. The GFS is remarkable at identifying the potential for these in the 10-14 day range coupled with pattern recognition. We will continue to update you on this

This Wednesday, a broad area of low pressure is likely to develop over the southwestern Caribbean Sea in a couple of days. Gradual development is possible thereafter, and a tropical depression could form over the weekend or early next week while the system drifts generally northward over the central or western Caribbean Sea. It has a near-zero chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a medium (40 percent) chance in the next 7 days.
