Let's talk about luxury river cruise dining. We had our own chef on board who was visible even between meal times - sampling food with us before presentations, participating in evening entertainment or having his team be visible making custom creations for us to order at breakfast and lunch.

This cruise line has a main dining room, a special tapas event, a snack bar area open between meals, an ice cream area with unique flavors (and so yummy!) and toppings, a coffee bar, a self service snack area by the lobby, a cheese plate option both by the self service area and not self service at the main dining room, custom coffee creations, and even a grill area on the top deck.

As the guests on board are from many countries - the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand & Belgium were popular picks on our cruise, the food is varied, plentiful and quality. We enjoyed a wide variety of foods (despite my food allergies - oh my gosh I had choices like I typically never do), beverages and snacks.

I don't know that my photos can do justice to this beautiful river cruise ship. I've been on several river cruises in the past and this newer cruise line is a true LUXURY line. From a full walk in shower and dual sink vanity in the bathroom to the entertainment on board, to the deck furnishings and the inclusions to the amazing staff the feeling of being taken care of was over the top amazing.

We loved getting to know the crew and the little things they did each day to make our experience amazing - from meeting food allergies and preferences to providing in room service at any time to going off the ship to bring back beverages to meet (or exceed) guest preferences - we felt truly spoiled.

Unlike many river cruise lines, this line is small and currently only has 3 ships and the passenger to crew ratio is better than any other cruise line I know. They are very focused on YOUR experience and the crew knew our names and preferences from day one. For someone with a food allergy, a food or beverage preference or just wanting a relaxing getaway, this is an amazing feeling. There are only a couple of river cruise lines that are truly inclusive and this is one - we had OPTIONS for our excursions each day which ranged from city walking tours to wine tastings by land rover, night time canal cruises, food tastings, beer tastings, guided hikes and bikes as well.

The space in the cabins is larger than average and these have the French balconies that open electronically and even had an option for a screen to keep bugs out of your cabin.

I'll share more on this soon including highlights of our excursions, sailing along the vineyards and castles, through the river locks and more - and have I mentioned the food?

A few more photos from Amsterdam today showing Dutch pancakes, the Anne Frank Museum, the flower market and more canal images. Yesterday's post described some of these but I even found a Dutch pancake place this visit that made Gluten Free pancakes - a fun breakfast stop on a rainy morning. So many unique things to do, see and eat in Amsterdam!

When you think of visiting Amsterdam, are these the photos you expect to see? How about after multiple visits. Not sure how many times I've visited this unique city but with it having a major river cruise port and a cruise port as well as being a destination in itself, I've been many times over the years.

Amsterdam is such a unique mix of cultures and architecture with the unique canal houses and the modern skyscrapers. It's also got an interesting food scene with so many cultures coming together in one city. We chose to dine more traditionally as one in our group loves herring and eel (and one of us likes to make the other happy as those are more traditional northern European dishes. Why not eat locally when you are traveling?

One of my favorite things to do in Amsterdam is a canal cruise and this time we were lucky enough to enjoy an evening canal cruise watching the sunset and listening to a high energy accordion player. A unique experience when he plays in multiple languages from 50s rock to classic accordion tunes to traditional Dutch songs that have the staff singing along.

This visit I FINALLY visited the Anne Frank Museum and it was worth a visit to understand more about history and the life she led. It's a self paced tour with an audio guide and you can go as slow or as quickly as you'd like through the museum. Tickets are hard to come by and please only visit if you can handle climbing steep Dutch stairs (often feel like ladders). Unfortunately no photos from inside the museum as they are not allowed.

These world travelers just completed an amazing cruise vacation with a really unique Baltic itinerary including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia and the Netherlands. Hawaii Legislation Allowing Vacation Rental Bans
We've been expecting more bans on short term vacation rentals (home rentals not hotels or vacation condos) in Hawaii for several years now and the legislation looks like it will officially allow local governments to make decisions on what is right for their county. Perception in Hawaii (& many other destinations) is that short term home rentals have driven locals out of the housing market due to availability and increased pricing.
