School has started and Samantha (Austin's wife) is needed at home to hold down the fort and care for their 3 children. Therefore, I will be going to STL on Tuesday to stay with Austin. He is having very intense chemo and needs someone there to help and encourage him. We will be there for about 2 weeks. He will be home for 2 weeks and then back for more chemo and the stem cells transplant. The second trip we will be there for 4+ weeks.

The nurse told Austin some people lose their will to eat, drink or even get out of bed during this type of intense chemotherapy. We wont let that happen! Pray for Holy Spirit to fill Austin with strength and a vibrant will to overcome! Praying God's richest blessings over you.

You may remember that Austin Sthole is an Air Force Veteran who was exposed to th… Vickie Dodson needs your support for Austin Unable to Work bc of Cancer

Franklin County Emergency Management is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole and is currently activated to a Level 2. Franklin County is currently under a TS Warning and a Surge Watch. There is still some uncertainty as to where this storm is going to make landfall. Therefore,

A VOLUNTARY Evacuation order has been issued for all barrier islands including Alligator Point, Bald Point, Dog Island & St. George Island, Low lying Coastal Areas prone to flooding and RV Parks. This will begin at 8:00 AM. If you plan to shelter in place, please make sure all your needed supplies are on hand. This includes meds, food, water, pet supplies, etc.

CLOSURES – Schools, County Offices and the Courthouse will be closed tomorrow and Friday.

RE-ENTRY TAGS – If you have an old re-entry tag, it is still valid, and you do not need an updated tag. Even if it shows an expiration date. No Re-Entry Tags will be issued if the EOC is Activated.

BEACHES – Please pay close attention to Beach flags. There is an elevated risk of Rip Current for the next several days. Large and dangerous surf is possible at area beaches. If Flags Are Red Stay Out of the Water.

Visit the Gibson Inn!

During the height of World War II, the Gibson was taken over by the U.S. Army and used as officer housing for those serving at Camp Gordon Johnston. The monument out front is in remembrance of Lt. Willoughby Ryan Marks, who commanded Company C of the 61st Infantry, 5th Division, for showing "extraordinary valor" and sacrificing his life in an attempt to save a comrade killed in the Argonne, a World War I battle fought October 12, 1918. Shortly after the War ended, the hotel fell into disrepair and changed hands many times over.

The Gibson Inn was built in 1907 by James Fulton Buck at the peak of Apalachicola’s reign as center for lumber and shipping. Originally named The Franklin, the hotel was constructed using native heart pine and black cypress. The Franklin soon became one of the most luxurious hotels on the Panhandle and the only one between Jacksonville and Pensacola heated entirely by steam.

In 1923, Annie Gibson Hayes and Mary Ellen "Sunshine" Gibson purchased the hotel. The two sisters renamed it the Gibson Inn. Folks remember the Gibson sisters as being true trailblazers, a duo that was well ahead of their time.
