I would like to take a moment to update my loyal clients and friends of this page.

I hope most of you know that the best interests of my clients is always my top priority. Because of this, as of March 17th, I have made the decision to not book travel through April 30th. (I haven't made a formal announcement until now since I have been addressing urgent matters.)

Yes, I am still getting requests for immediate travel. My response has been: "The rules currently in effect are not necessarily the rules that will be in effect tomorrow....or even tonight." Each day I watch countries close their borders, airlines cancel flights, and hotel properties close without notice due to low occupancy. I am bombarded with ever-changing policies that negate a policy that was issued just hours before. I simply won't put my clients in an uncertain situation because someone posts a picture of "business-as-usual" at one of their resorts. It is not business as usual.

I see other agents and travel suppliers frustrated with the border closings we are seeing throughout Europe and the Caribbean. And I completely understand the frustration and fear of losing money. I do. I feel it. I feel it hard. But, the safety and comfort of my clients comes first. Always.

During this crisis, I have been taking a serious look at which suppliers are being forthcoming and honest about the current situation within the destinations their properties are located. Yes, they will tell you that their spas and restaurants are open. And they are. However, the residents are being told they have to close their bars, beauty shops, and restaurants for safety reasons. Yet, if they work on one of the resorts choosing to stay operational, they are required to perform spa services for guests - not exactly the social distancing their governments are trying to implement. Vacations are important. But not more important than people and communities. I am passionate about the importance of travel. But, people first.

The travel industry will be back one day. And it will be back strong! But future recommendations to my clients will be to support those resorts and travel suppliers who cared for their people, supported their communities, and were HONEST with the traveling public.

There are stories every day of travelers who booked through avenues like Expedia, BookIt, and Costco who aren't being cared for. But there are also some (once) trusted suppliers who are not caring for their Travel Advisors, and subsequently their guests, as they should be. The difference is that if you booked through a Travel Advisor they are the one going to bat for you and spending hours on hold. It is not an easy job and I am amazed daily at the high quality of talent out there working for their clients when they aren't getting paid. We don't just close up shop and say, "You're on your own". We advocate for you. We care for you.

However, because we are small businesses, we do have the ability to pivot easily. To change our focus and work with companies that are more in line with our standards and values. That is what I will be doing over the next few months. The good people; the general managers and owners with integrity and compassion; the travel suppliers who work as diligently as I do for the best possible outcome in all of this - those are the people I will be working with in the months and years to come.

And those companies who have shown us their true colors....well, I will learn from that. And I will pass on that knowledge.

13/03/2020

I just want to take a moment away from the chaos to thank my loyal clients. I also need to ask for a little extra grace as I continue to work with those clients immediately affected. Hold times are long. Information is changing hourly. And I must prioritize those who are currently traveling and who have travel scheduled in the next 60 days.

Every one of you is so important to me and my business! Some of you have waited way too long for quotes for travel later this year and into next year. Trust me when I say that I would much rather be planning your celebrations and family vacations than navigating this crisis.

I have never worked so hard to lose so much money. But my first concern is not my bottom line. My first concern is - and always will be - the safety, comfort, and best interests of my clients.

I understand customers who have booked through other avenues (I'm looking at you Expedia and Costco) are having a really horrible time right now. Customer service has never been their strong suit. And that has become glaringly apparent during the last few weeks. People who can't reach agents with these large corporations have reached out to me and I truly feel their pain. I will continue to do what I can to direct them to the proper resources, but my priority must be my existing clients.

I hate seeing people's well-planned and hard-earned vacations cancelled and postponed. But this is a temporary situation. It is a very difficult situation. But it will pass. And I hope when it does you will take a moment to consider the immense value of using a Travel Advisor to book that next vacation - even if it isn't me. We are small businesses. Our businesses are taking a huge hit. And our families are directly affected. Your future vacation planning (once we can come up for air) means everything to us.

The Travel Agent community is small but mighty. We are coming together to help each other. We are sharing our connections and resources to get through this mess. As an industry, we will eventually be stronger for it. And our clients are the ones who will reap the benefits. I love my colleagues and clients like family. I am holding you all tight.

And, yes, I did buy all the hand sanitizer at Bath and Body Works to share with my clients who are choosing to travel. Because I care about your vacation AND your clean hands!

The TSA is telling travelers not to put their phones, keys, and wallets into the bins at airports — put them in your carry-on instead.

12/03/2020

I’ve been hosting travel shows for 21 years and in that time I have gone thru 9-11 where I had to get back to work a week after, the financial crisis of 2007 There was H1N1, floods, fires and volcanic eruptions. All of these events abruptly changed my immediate course of travel and threatened to change how we travel as a whole. But one thing I’ve learned in two decades is that Travel Comes Back.
â €
I’ve also learned that when I watch the news it feels like the world is ending and when I head outside in my community as well as travel abroad I know it is not.
â €
Clearly there are people who should not be traveling now —also obvious where we can’t go for awhile. But what is unclear and therefore most difficult to take is how unpredictable all our lives have become.
â €
But Travel Comes Back.
â €
And soon you will want to go somewhere anywhere to prove that as human beings it is impossible for us to keep our social distance.
â €
As of March 11 there are no federal guidelines stopping any travel in the United States. International travel makes us uneasy because of how rapidly things are changing. Believe me, I get it. It’s not just me I worry about but 6 crew members who I love as well as caring about the people we interact with.
â €
A little fact that I know and love is that simply the act of PLANNING travel puts us in the same psychological happy-go-lucky place as BEING in a destination. Did you know that?

So dream and PLAN your next trip for this spring and summer because right now your Mental Health is just as important. What makes us happier makes us healthier.
Here are 3 things to know:
1. Most airlines are waving fees for future travel. Check the airlines
2. Get a Travel Agent. their job is to navigate this world and be your advocate. AAA travel agents are a great source of knowledge and peace of mind. Full disclosure they help fund my travel series on PBS and I’m really proud of them and their support of me.
3. Call cruiselines, hotels travel outfitters. talk to a person about their cancellation fee. they want to hear from you and are doing a lot so you’ll come.
â €
In the words of Steve Perry (who I once had a dream we hosted a travel show together).
“Don’t Stop Believing”.

I think it’s important to stay informed with some of the facts that aren’t getting as much attention as the headline-grabbing worse-case scenarios.

A small study from China finds infected babies have only mild symptoms. And a study of pregnant women who were infected with the virus evaluates whether it can be passed on to their babies.

If you don't already have a Real ID or passport I highly recommend you take action sooner rather than later!

"The new rules go into effect on October 1, 2020. That’s the date that all U.S. residents need to have a Real ID–compliant driver’s license or other approved identification in hand to make it past airport security."

Later this year, all U.S. travelers will need certain identification to board any aircraft in the country.
