Lovely 3 nights and days filming with Walter Pérez and Leonardo Sardella in Brooklyn and Manhattan to continue with the documentary project El Abrazo that I began in 2010 … here some sweet memories… I woke up this morning of shooting a few more scenes to learn that my flight to Spain had been affected by the global tech outage - 🙃… not giving up and after hours on the phone I managed to reschedule my itinerary for the same day and heading back now to Valencia, Spain this evening ! More tango filming awaits in my birth country and very much looking forward to some leasure time with family 💛🦋🛩️🌸 Thank you Walter and Leo and sweet doggies Waileo, Wendy and Frida again for these few days of reconnection after so long and for your collaboration filming more scenes with you for El Abrazo! To be continued …

Beautiful days filming with Paul Ekman in Dan Francisco recording more of his memories and also making a dream come true for me, that he would reunite with Samuel Baum the creator of the TV series Lie To Me who based his work on Paul’s scientific discoveries, a true collaborator ans now a dear friend 💛 here photos with Paul’s daighrer’s Eve Ekman and my beautiful generous talented film team Vicente Franco, DP, sound recordist Ray Day and editor and camera Kyung Lee along with Charlotte Burchard a beautiful fiend who list us do the interview in her gorgeous home.

This morning I heard the sad news that Otro Cake is closing and doing so this Sunday.

This comes as a big surprise to me and the PBS team! Posting this to let you know the virtual screening scheduled for May 29th with the Q&A has been cancelled. 🥲

However, the film can be viewed on their PBS Hawaii broadcast on Thursday, May 30 at 8:30 pm, on Sunday, June 2 at 1:00 pm and online at pbshawaii.org on Thursday, May 30 at 8:30 pm and anytime thereafter.

One more sign of life’s impermanence 🙏🏼
I am grateful for the work my editor and I did on prepping the PBS version and my deep gratitude to the PBS Hawai‘i team for all their many efforts!

I hope you still get to view Ottomaticake and remember his delish 🍰flavors!

Exciting news - Ottomaticake Film!
The film I did with Otto about his most delicious Otto Cake Cheesecakes that premiered at HIFF in 2017 and screened at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco and Doris Duke here in Oahu will be on PBS Hawai'i next! Broadcast release is scheduled for May 30th at 8pm and the day before Otto and I will do a live streaming with Q&A for anyone anywhere... more on that once we get the info from the PBS Hawai'i team. WE the film team are EXCITED!!!

Today I returned to Otto Cake to bring his cake to a dinner party with beautiful Shirley Thompson and her friends and it was just absolutely wonderful to eat again …his amazing plain and the lilikoi flavor are just to die for… his shop is still opened on 12th Ave in Kaimuki, cash only ! A treat to return to the shop!

As I was there talking to Otto’s assistant Yoshie I told her “I think I am back to 2017… walking out with the boxes to my car I had to tell myself no no Gemma it is 2023! 🤭

We are working on having the film on PBS Hawaii in 2024 so stay tune for that one!

Hoy he vuelto a Otto Cake y he comprado dos tartas su amazing plain y la de la fruta de la pasión u wow 😋 maravillosas! Al estar en la tienda me parecía que había vuelto al 2017… volviendo al coche me tuve que decir a mi misma, no no que estoy en el 2023. Un placer volver a la tienda. Gracias Yoshie la ayudante de Otto por tu ayuda.

Espero que la película se vea este año que viene en la PBS de los Estados Unidos.
