As we enter the cooler months of fall, Great Smoky Mountains will continue to experience increased bear, elk, and visitor activity. The rules and best practices for viewing are listed below.

1. Use the Rule of Thumb for wildlife viewing. If you can't cover the animal with your thumb when you hold it up, you're too close.

2. View Bear and Elk from 50 yards, it's the law.

3. Bring binoculars, view wildlife from a distance, and stay in your vehicle when wildlife is near roadsides.

4. Wildlife has a shorter lifespan when fed human food. Keep all food and garbage away from wildlife.

5. If you approach an animal so closely that it stops feeding, changes direction of travel, or otherwise alters its behavior, you are too close!

This weekend, April 07-10, 2022, traffic volume will be heavy due to a large car show. Getting through and around Pigeon Forge will be a challenge. The congestion will require you to be patient and observant. Peak traffic times will be Friday and Saturday night. Primary, secondary and tertiary roads will become clogged with extended wait times. You will need to plan ahead to avoid the congestion in the area. Travel times will be hours instead of minutes in some cases.

Do not be in a hurry.
Watch for pedestrians, everywhere.
If you are a pedestrian, watch for vehicles.
If you are driving slower, move to the right.
If you are trying to get into the right lane, do not merge near an intersection. This will block the intersection.
Park in lined parking spaces, this prevents obstruction of traffic.

Strong wind gusts are forecast on Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night, with highest winds across the mountains. Downed trees and power lines are possible across the region due to the strong, gusty winds. The recent dry conditions and strong winds will also increase fire danger on Wednesday afternoon through the overnight hours before rainfall arrives.

Bears are getting more active recently. We got motion alerts from the driveway almost every night. 😄🥰 We are so happy to see them back!!!
Please don't leave food out, secure trashcan, and lock your car doors and cabin door. If you would like to watch them, please be safe first. If you find them too close, or damaging your car. Some loud noise should be enough to scare them away.
To our guests, you are more than welcome to share some bear photos you took by our cabins, or in the mountains. 🤩 we would love to see them!
