We had a great weekend at Tumalo last week... music, tie-dye, camping and hiking with so many kids and dogs! We love being Together, Anywhere!
Central Oregon looks mostly dry this weekend!
National Get Outdoors Day is this Saturday, June 11 and is a Fee Free Day! The fee waiver includes many picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads, and visitor centers. Fees for camping, cabin rentals, heritage expeditions, or other permits still apply. Fees will continue to be charged at recreation sites operated by concessionaires unless the individual manager chooses to participate.

Holy snow pack!
According to the NRCS Snow Survey, May had over double the average precipitation in the river basins for the Hood, Sandy, and Lower Deschutes Rivers. Much of that high elevation was as snow, and Mt. Hood snowpack is still about 140% of average.
As a result, Trillium Lake, Frog Lake, and Still Creek Campgrounds will not open until June 17. Campground staff are regularly tracking snow melt & will clear winter debris and complete spring maintenance as soon as possible.

We have another red alert for tonight! 4.7 million birds will pass through Oregon skies. Help them arrive safely at their breeding grounds by turning off your outside lights, and closing your shades or blinds.
As migrating birds pass over brightly lit cities, skyglow drowns out the stars, confusing them and luring them into urban areas. Once trapped in the windowed maze of the city, birds either hit buildings directly or circle them until they collapse from exhaustion. Lights Out programs help to prevent birds from being attracted to urban areas.

By working with the McKenzie River Chamber of Commerce, we were able to create an interwoven story of a destructive fire, undisturbed landmarks and a resilient community. Ellie (our little black dog) is the newest addition to the TA team and is seen here at 7 months old braving the cold waters of Waldo Lake! Yesterday, we went in search of the mysterious hole that drains Lost Lake each spring like a bathtub drain. We sadly didn’t find the drain (because of snow blocking road) BUT we did discover that our six month old puppy named Otter does love the water! Thank goodness we don’t have to change his name... What exactly are we doing? And how do we do what we do? We started designing these guides back in the fall of 2018. After we decided our initial routes, we went out and recorded all the twists and turns along the way using our GoPro Hero 7. Since those fun days of road trips and recording our way through Central Oregon, we've been writing, editing, narrating, and programming to make sure you have the ultimate road trip experience this summer. Of course your experience will be live action, not simulated like this snippet of the McKenzie River drive.
