The legacy that Brehon Brewhouse has created is right up our alley. Every beer was great tasting. Even those in our crew who aren’t adventurous found something yummy to drink. Keep up the good work. We will be back; and we will be watching for the Brehon brews at stores and pubs near us.

No Irish tour would be complete without a stop at a pub or three. Luck for us, we stopped in Athlone at Sean’s Bar, named the oldest pub in Ireland. 900 years and still going. As Dave has said, we gotta keep our barley counts up.

Ballynahinch castle has amazing walking trails and not far from Clifden. The remains of the keep that the O’Flaherty clan built. For history fans, the Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley was married to an O’Flaherty and inherited his holdings when he died. She was another hard core woman we all need to know more about.

The group made a stop at the Kylemore Abbey with a neo-gothic church and a castle built in the 1860’s. The abbey is still in use and there is new construction in progress to continue the monastic way. Bonus: they have Connemara Ponies…we got a shot of a couple of cuties, still with their youthful grey coats.

Parkes Castle built in the 17th century over top of a tower built long before by Sir Brian O’Rourke as he fled English rule. The castle tour offers a view into the period of folks living in this beautiful area and the history surrounding it throughout the landscape. My favorite is the steam room built into the outer wall. A nod to student day at the Sligo Races. We had a few that never been to a horse track and did really well. We all know picking a horse based on its cool name is one way to go but who knew choosing one based on your high school football number was a winning strategy!!! A fun day out. Your welcome.

The walk to the Warrior Queen Maeve’s Cairn at Knocknarea. It is a hearty walk, and amazing history. The stone mound is an incredible site to see, surrounded by several other tombs marked by stone circles and mini mounds of earth.
