MWBA is an organization based out of Nebraska offering an instructional and learning atmoshere along with an organized cooking circuit for amateur level competitive BBQ Teams & Members. In our Journey through BBQ we became overwhelmed with the amount of Interest there was in Competition BBQ. In Discovering this interest it was also introduced that there where a number of teams/individuals with int

erest in more however discouraged at how many differences there where event to event. The founders of MWBA saw this as an open door and initiative to develope a more organized standard to the amateur level competitions to rebuild this interest shown by so many. We have found that alot of your amateur comps. or "small town" competitions are a result of different community organizations using the wonderful world of BBQ as a fundraising venture while at the same time offering a fun and friendly function for the entire family. It is one goal of the MWBA to create a successful program for our members but an additional goal to potentialy help the smaller communities such as ours strive and offer that infamous "something to do" right at home! This whole idea started with a bet that created amongst ourselves and a couple of other teams that we regularly competed with at these competitions that went like this: We had developed a novelty traveling trophy that circulated throught the group, it was an easy concept, the lowest scoring team at the event had the honor of having to where this god awfull pampered chef dress from the 80's at the next event and so on. It was amazing and enlightening at the same time at the interest that this joke, for lack of a better term, had created. Before long we had a number of teams wanting in on what we called "The Dress Code" competition, we even had spectators or general public that would travel to the different events we where doing just to see who got to see who had to wear the dress next! AT THIS POINT THE MIDWEST BBQ ASSOCIATION (MWBA) WAS BORN!

8 racks St. Louis Ribs
2 pork belly's skinless( Sam's club Approx. 5 lbs each)
If you can't cook this much, let Brandon know when he is passing out meat, and we can adjust accordingly.

Optional-Beans are a $10 buy-in with winner taking all. They are judged but not scored.

Meat can be passed out on Friday or Saturday morning. If you get your meat on Friday and plan to leave the premises, you must check in your cooler with Brandon, as no meat can leave the cook site.

Kids Que:
1 rack St. Louis Ribs
Turn in minimum 3 bones for judging

Setup can be done after 7 pm Friday. Must speak to Brandon BEFORE you park.

Turn-In times
Kids Q- 2:00pm

Regular Contest:
Beans - 3:30pm
Ribs - 4:00pm
Pork Belly Burnt Ends - 4:30pm

Judges need to report to First Street Brewing at 2:30 pm

The Grill Crew always looks forward to meeting new people and making new friends on the competition circuit. We specialize in SMOKED, GRILLED, and WOOD INFUSED BBQ with a Nebraskan style flair.
Also did we mention we carry /stock some of the best BBQ RUBS, SPICES, SAUCES, PELLETS, WOOD, CHARCOAL, GRILLS, SMOKERS, and BBQ TRAILERS in Central Nebraska!!!! We enjoy the BBQ Competitions so much we just keep on going, so if ya see us stop by and chat with us about BBQ!!!"

Our next member is Beef N Que- Brandon Barwick, Mike Hoffman, Galen Winkler, and Amber Barwick. They have been a member since 2021 and are from Hastings, NE and Juniata, NE. Brandon Barwick is also a board member.
"We are a competition BBQ team from the Hastings, NE area. After several years of cooking for family and friends we decided to try our hand at competition BBQ. We joined the MWBA in 2021, and cooked in two competitions that year. We look forward to cooking with the MWBA for many years to come and have enjoyed the lifelong friends we have made along the way."

"We are a competition BBQ team out of Plainview, Nebraska. We also like to do catering for weddings, birthdays, graduations, etc. Nothing better than great BBQ and great friends!"

Dragons BBQ is up next! Will Haley has been a member since 2022 and is from Pleasanton, NE. He is also Vice President of the MWBA.
"Started off grilling when I was teenager with my uncle, and it took off from there. I got hooked to the smoking of food in my mid twenties and never looked back. We love to cook! From just feeding the neighbors and friends, to competition."

Slicks Bbq-brandon Johns is our next team, they have been a member since 2023. They won Rookie Team of the Year last year and come from Lincoln, NE.
"I have been smoking and barbecuing for at least 20 years. I'm a self-taught cook that learned how to BBQ by watching BBQ competition shows. My signature meats to cook are Pork Ribs and Pork Shoulder. I have smoked brisket, which always turned out good, but wanting to learn on a competitive level. Everyone that I have cooked for has told me my cooking is way better than any BBQ they have had in the past."

We have 3 contests in one day and only one belt. The board has decided to do a random drawing to decide where the belt goes. We did it randomly and as you can see the belt will be going to Shickley.
