If you missed them, you still may have a chance to see them (5/11-5/13! )

1. Download these Apps:
Aurora Alerts App
Aurora Pro App
Northern Light App

2. If everything aligns, and the sky is clear, get out of city lights. Ideally just outside of the city to the north.

3. Be patient. Even if all of the numbers below line-up, with clear skies. The particles come and go. They may be really strong one minute, then nothing at all, before starting back up again. Patience is key!

4. See the below ideal numbers. Pay the most attention to KP, wind speed and BZ values.

*KP index: You need KP6 or higher for Nebraska (and most of the states equal to us). The higher the number, the lower they will be viewed on the horizon. (last night at 9:30pm -KP9)

*Wind speed: You need a wind speed of 450km or higher(last night at 930p-the wind speed was 738km)!

*BZ: Need -10NT or more (last night at 9:30pm BZ was -29NT)!

*BT: The higher the number, the stronger the better. BZ of 10 NT or higher is best for Auroras (last night at 9:30 BT was 31NT)!

*Density: The higher the number the better. You want atleast 10-20 or higher. (last night at 9:30pm. The density was 29)!

5. Your phone will pick up color much brighter than you will see with your eyes. However,last night we were seeing purples, pinks and green with our eyes. Someone with us who is color blind could only see green, so that plays a part also.
**iPhone pro’s: Use nightmode**

I have been to Iceland many times to see auroras. The coloring last night was some of the best I have ever seen! Iceland still wins on dancing auroras, but these colors were amazing!

If aurora viewing is on your bucket list, tonight might be your night!
Much of the US will be able to see auroras late this evening, into early morning. As of now it looks like 10pm-2am will be prime time (but timing can change).
The KP index goes from 0-9 (we need a KP 6, and clear skies to see them from here). Right now forecast shows KP 8-9 tonight!

1. Download the Aurora Pro App
2. Get out of city lights.
3. Be patient.

Depending on intensity, you may only see grayish looking movement that shows up stronger on camera - or you may see greens & pinks with your eyes!

For reference the pic below was taken in Iceland and we saw colors, but not as bright as they appear in pics.
