Did You Know? During construction of Walt Disney World's Space Mountain, the Imagineers became concerned that the size of it would overshadow Cinderella Castle. Their solution - to set the building 15 feet below the rest of Tomorrowland so as to make it appear smaller.

Happy 50th Birthday, Walt Disney World! On this date in 1971, the Magic Kingdom opened to the public. The opening day ticket price was $3.50 - what a deal!! If you're not there today, the 50th anniversary celebration lasts for the next 18 months, so that will work! Also, there is a two hour special tonight on ABC - check it out! #

Who else loves Figment from the Epcot ride Journey Into Imagination? Ever wondered why he's purple? He was going to be green, but the attraction's sponsor, Kodak, thought the color too closely resembled the packaging of rival Fuji Film. I'm glad he ended up purple - it's more imaginative!

Happy birthday, Disneyland! The original Disney theme park in Anaheim, CA opened on this day in 1955, with a ceremony attended by 28,000 guests. It cost $17 million to build, and the park opened just under a year after construction began. Yes - you read that right!

Did You Know? The Norway Pavilion was the most recently opened pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase, way back in 1988. There's actually room for about 8 more pavilions! I would love to see more countries represented....what would you like to see built?

Did You Know? "The Lion King" was Disney's first animated feature film to be based on a completely original story - kind of crazy considering it was the 32nd animated feature film that Disney made! It became the highest grossing animated film of all time when it was released, so I'd say it was a good move!

Did you know that Doritos were invented at Disneyland? In the early 1960s, an employee for the company that supplied food to the Disneyland restaurant Casa de Fritos suggested that the cook take the stale leftover tortillas, cut them into triangles, fry them, and season them. As a result - Doritos were born!

Who remembers the Earful Tower at Disney's Hollywood Studios? The former icon of the park, there since the park's opening day, was removed a little over 5 years ago to make way for Toy Story Land. Those are some pretty large mouse ears - you would need a hat size of 342 3/8 to wear them! 😂

Did You Know? The aquarium at Epcot's The Seas with Nemo and Friends pavilion measures 203 feet in diameter. Spaceship Earth, at 160 feet in diameter, could comfortably fit inside it!

Today is Earth Day - which also means it's the anniversary of the opening day of Disney's Animal Kingdom! The park turns 23 years old today, and it is definitely getting better with age! Did you know? It cost $17 million to build Disneyland. The cost to build Space Mountain at Walt Disney World was between $17 million and $20 million! How crazy is that?

Did You Know? Spaceship Earth stands on six legs that are sunk into the ground to provide support for the structure. Because the water table is so high, the legs had to be placed 160 feet deep underground in order to hit solid earth! That's only 20 feet less than the height of Spaceship Earth!

Did You Know? Disney's famous audio animatronic figures are very time consuming and very expensive to make, which is why the same figure is often used on multiple attractions. One figure in particular is said to be used in three different places at Walt Disney World - he is the narrator on Carousel of Progress, a mandolin player on Spaceship Earth, and Dwight Eisenhower at Hall of Presidents! A man of many hats!

On this day in 2014, the Festival of Fantasy Parade debuted at Walt Disney World! Have you seen this parade yet? It's awesome - I've heard it described often as the "parade you'll love even if you don't love parades." High energy, dynamic floats, tons of Disney characters, great music, a fire breathing dragon....what's not to love? Can't wait until the day it's running again!

Today I am celebrating my FIVE year anniversary of being a travel advisor! This past year has been...a little challenging, but I am still standing, and looking forward to brighter days ahead. I've been fortunate enough to help so many wonderful families plan their adventures, and I can't wait to see everybody get back out there for a very well deserved vacation when the time is right. Thank you so much to my clients, family and friends for helping me reach this point! I can't wait to start another year doing what I love!!

The finale of Fantasmic, a nighttime show at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios, includes the fire breathing dragon Maleficent. Originally, the initial burst of flame was created by combining compressed air and cremora - as in non-dairy coffee creamer. Seriously!
