What do you know about Paragon Gourd Hand #Drums ?
Paragon gourd hand drums are traditional African instruments made from calabash gourds and covered with animal skin. They are handcrafted in #Mali 🇲🇱 and Guinea 🇬🇳 by cultural artisans. This drum as demonstrated in the video has a large calabash gourd, goat skin, and a mellow, deep tone. It's played with a lighter technique than a #djembe or #conga.

We love ancient #percurssion instruments.Today we focus on the Gonje. The gonje is a one-stringed fiddle from West Africa, including Ghana, that is played with a bow.
Construction
The gonje is made from a calabash gourd covered in lizard or snakeskin, with a horsehair string and bow. It is decorated with scarves and a brass ball.
Sound
The gonje's sound is considered unique and uncanny, and some say it is difficult to understand how it produces such a range of sounds.
Player - Instrument Interface and Sound Production:
The gonje is held nearly horizontally in the player's lap (when played in the seated position) with the soundboard facing up at about a 45-degree angle from horizontal. Whether being played while seated or standing, a cloth strap tied to the instrument’s neck and over the fiddler’s left shoulder stabilizes it.The string is free stopped (not pushed against the neck) with the fingers of the left hand, and the bow is moved perpendicularly across the playing string with the right hand. The instrument has a range of approximately an octave and a fourth. A player may either accompany his own singing, or that of a separate praise singer and sometimes a small chorus. In certain performance settings the gonje player does this while dancing. It may be accompanied by rattles as indicated in this video or with other gong players.
Origins/History/Evolution:
The Dagomba consider the history an essential aspect of any important thing. The gonje, and the fiddling tradition associated with it, has an oral history that extends into the 1700s. This history explains that the gonje was adopted from contact with the Gurma people of present day Burkina Faso. This oral history traces the chief fiddlers of the Dagomba, called Yamba-Naa, back through time to the original Yamba-Naa, although there are multiple versions of this oral history. Dagomba fiddlers are aware of the transformations that have taken place within the tradition becau

We love this breakdown and connection to different foods and drinks courtesy of @deffnotant. 🙌🏾
🔁 @deffnotant: I wanted to make a couple of things clear because it may not have come across in the actual video. Yuka also known as cassava did not originate in Africa and it is a staple of indigenous cultures throughout the Caribbean South America and Central America. What I was trying to say is using plantains as a starch to make things like pasteles is African.
