The Inca Trail hike is so much more than just a pilgrimage to Machu Picchu. It is a history story unfolding before your very eyes as you walk through so many Incan ruins of old.

The stunning Maras Salt Mines of Peru are a bit of a mystery dating back to pre-Incan times (between 500-1100 CE). More than 3,000 ponds which are locally owned by 600 local families, are still mined for salt to this day. A saltwater spring fills these shallow pools with water, and eventually the intense sun evaporates the water leaving behind salt, which is collected using ancient techniques.

This kid read more than 4,000 pages of Rick Riordan books involving Greek mythology since December, which cultivated a deep appreciation for the ancient history and mythology of Greece. It seemed like it might be worth a trip here to learn even more while I meet with guides, visit hotels, and map out a future itinerary for future travelers.

I can’t wait for him to assist me with the private group trip I will lead back here in 2026!

While the video is not the best, it was taken on the morning my group summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2021. To hike from a rainforest where monkeys jump from to tree to tree all the way up to where you stand beside some of the last remaining glaciers in all of Africa, which tower above the clouds, is nothing less than awe-inspiring. You pass through five major ecological climate zones on this trek. I cannot wait to experience this yet again next summer. Spots are still open. Message me for further information.
