We've kept this important resolution throughout these past 9 years of providing quality, human-centered, and educational study abroad programming for students.

This past summer students from Loyola Blakefield had the opportunity to visit Corazón de Jesús, a K-12 school, located in the Jicamarca area of Lima, Peru.

Both sets of students enjoyed getting to meet each other, share lunch in the cafeteria, exchange in classes, and talk to one another about their lives and experiences.

We continue to make it our focus to foster genuine bonds between students, the incredible places they visit, and the welcoming people they meet during their travels.

Welcome to 2024!✨

The beginning of the year is a great time to think about studying abroad and start planning the steps to do so!✈️🧳

One of the primary things students wonder about when they start their study abroad journey is how to fund the cost of their trip.

EdOdyssey knows that associated fees can be a barrier to entry for students interested in studying abroad. That’s why we are starting off the new year with new scholarships aimed at helping students cover some of the costs:

🔵𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:
For students on short-term EdOdyssey programs & promotes travel for first-time travelers.
Award amount: $𝟔𝟎𝟎

🟡 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:
For students that have participated previously in one of our international or domestic programs.
Award Amounts: Short Term Program: $𝟐𝟓𝟎 Long Term Program: $𝟓𝟎𝟎

🔵𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:
For students applying to study abroad on an EdOdyssey program for a semester or longer.
Award Amount: 𝐔𝐩 𝐭𝐨 $𝟏,𝟓𝟎𝟎

🟡𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:
For students applying to one of our non-traditional semester locations: Peru or Japan.
Award Amount: 𝐔𝐩 𝐭𝐨 $𝟐,𝟎𝟎𝟎

🔵𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:
If you are a middle or high school student, we’ll cover the cost of obtaining your passport for the first time.
Award Amount: 𝐔𝐩 𝐭𝐨 $𝟏𝟔𝟓

As the year comes to a close, we are recounting special EdOdyssey milestones from 2023:

⭐𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬:
*EdOdyssey orchestrated many awesome custom faculty-led programs this year, including these memorable trips:
- Atlanta Classical Academy students experienced the history, traditions, and magic of Italy.
- Salisbury University explored the indelible island of Sicily. Archeological parks and a hike up the volcanic Mt. Etna were on the itinerary🗻
-Loyola Blakefield high school students received hands-on education in Peru where they learned about local textile and agriculture production.

⭐𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬:
* EdOdyssey's Peru Program Director, Luis Garcia, welcomed Maddie and staff from UMass Boston and Fitchburg State University to Peru during an awesome summer site visit. Staff from both universities were able to see the quality of EdOdyssey's programming in Peru and experience the country's culture firsthand.

*Add another stamp to the passport🗺️: Maddie toured Ireland to evaluate EdOdyssey's programming options in the country. Insights and research from this trip led to EdOdyssey adding Ireland as a new location destination.

⭐𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦:
* Cue the confetti🎉This year EdOdyssey turned 9 years old! 🥳

* Our normally remote team met up in-person in some amazing places. One special visit happened this summer when Program Operations Manager, Maddie Reeves, Director of Program Operations, Sarah Reid, and EdOdyssey President & Founder, Peter McGovern, met up for a fun and successful co-working session in Chicago.

Our Team is very proud of all of the accomplishments of this past year.
We look forward to even more milestones in 2024 and another great year ahead! 💫

Take a mini virtual trip🧳to see how we each uniquely get into the spirit of the season✨:

🏔️In the picturesque Italian Alps, Stefano enjoys celebrating with his family while sharing a traditional Panettone- a sweet bread filled with raisins, candied fruit and almonds. Stefano always includes a thoughtful prayer for world peace during his holiday celebrations.

🎄In Boston, Peter likes to go for a holiday walk with Wyatt & Hayley to check out the special Boston Christmas Tree. Since 1971, the tree has been a gift from Nova Scotia to Boston in thanks for first responder assistance given after the 1917 explosion in Halifax, the largest non-nuclear explosion in recorded history.

🍪🍗Sarah combines traditions in Japan! She recently hosted friends to help with pre-holiday baking; chocolate chip and snickerdoodles are her go to cookies. Sarah says the traditional Japanese Christmas dinner is KFC and fancy cake. She and her family will have both staples this year while celebrating with a group of international friends.

💫During the holiday season in Peru it’s common to see displays of the nativity scene both outside people’s homes and in city parks and squares. Luis & Pepe recently checked out a large nativity display in the San Borja district of Lima.

☃️Maddie bundles up in Michigan to take annual hayrides with her family at her dad’s cottage. These family hayrides include hot chocolate and cookies afterwards!

🐶 In southern New Mexico, Kylie & Buzz take a stroll around the Village of Mesilla’s plaza to see it's holiday displays. The historic village, once home to Billy the Kid, now hosts many seasonal fairs where traditional New Mexican holiday foods can be bought including Bizcochito cookies as well as savory and dessert tamales.

⭐Guide poses with a parol- a typical decoration seen around the Philippines during the Christmas season. Parols are star shaped ornaments that symbolize the Star of Bethlehem.

December, in many ways, is a month that calls us to places that feel like home🏡✨

Reflecting on this month of connection, we're taking a look back at First Year Experience programs for Global Scholar students on both coasts at Northeastern University and Northeastern Oakland.

Our First Year Experience programs help freshman college and university students bond with one another and feel a sense of belonging in their new environment. During these experiences, students get to explore off campus together around their local area and go further afield while on interesting day trips. 🗺️

This fall Northeastern Global Scholars discovered the East Coast for themselves with trips to unique cities like Portland, Maine, Providence, Rhode Island and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. 🐚🌊

On the West Coast NUOakland Global Scholars ventured to many exciting California sites including: the Muir woods, Alcatraz Island, and the famed cities of Sausalito and Monterey.🌲🌤️

It was truly special to see these experiences bring new students together in community while also fostering strong connections between them and the awesome places they now get to call home💛💙
