Making Smiles Happen, Enterprises Making Smiles Happen, Enterprises is a business that's all about helping folks realize their dreams.

I started this business over a dozen years ago, at a time when I was basically starting all over. This is a business dedicated to helping people realize their dreams. It's hard to pin down just exactly what we do here, but the list includes sailing, diving, hiking, taekwondo, physical therapy, fitness, wellness and many more.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas this year! With Christmas coming in the middle of the week we had a different day than many but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of great conversations in the morning followed by a few chores and a restful afternoon, finishing up with a tasty charcuterie board and some cribbage with my favorite person. Back to work tomorrow just in time to plan the next holiday and my birthday. Merry Christmas to all my Making Smiles Happen family!!

The newly-formed Weekend Adventure Group took a walk in the rain today! 10 miles, 5 1/2 hours and somewhere between 32 and 38 degrees. We got rained on and challenged by slippery wet conditions but the smiles never wavered. What a great way to spend a day. We’re hoping to make this a weekly thing!

This was one of those unforgettable days! We started with room service, then off to the hot tub on the foredeck. It was blowing a steady 25 and gusting to 40 so we were afraid we wouldn’t get our whale watching trip in. No problem though, Mitch and “T” got us out on the grounds and we got the experience of a lifetime. Mom and baby swam right up to us for the chance to say hello to some amazing critters. The rest of the day was on cloud 9 but it was all wonderful. On to Raiatea for the next evolution!!

We’re on the boat! The Star Breeze is a Windstar ship and it’s definitely not your big ugly cruise ship. The rooms are wonderful suites and so far every section of the boat has been beautiful and well laid-out. We started our day with a crowded ride in the rental car (Bill and Angela don’t pack light) and a quick shopping trip in Papeete. Then it was all-aboard for the first day stuff and a great dinner. Ironically we went right back to Moorea for our first night and today we hope to snorkel with whales. Wish us luck!

A bike ride up into the mountains that included a little single-track work; a wander through the pineapple fields, and some more beach time and people watching. Back in March it was looking like my time at SEARHC might be coming to an end…. We booked this cruise in October without really knowing what the future would hold. It’s been a great time and a respite from work and the oncoming SE Alaska winter. Tahiti is pretty magical!

Our last day in Chicago was a whirlwind of adventure and fun. We started with a walk with a few thousand Chicago Bears fans on the way to the Field’s Museum of Natural History, then a great ballgame, followed by a fantastic dinner and topped of the day with some blues at Buddy Guy’s where we met… Buddy Guy. I can’t imagine a better day, and now we have to get a little sleep before we fly back home to a real SE Alaskan storm.
