Happy ! This week we are sharing a photo of the Wahab Coffee Shop in Ocracoke. The structure was originally built by Charlie Scarborough in 1901 to serve as the location for the Odd Fellows Lodge and Schoolhouse. It was then used as a private residence until the 1940s when Stanley Wahab purchased the location and turned it into the Wahab coffee shop. The building would go on to be used as a naval officer's club during WWII, and was later expanded and turned into one of the island’s first modern hotels called The Silver Lake Inn. The Silver Lake Inn would later change to The Island Inn, which remained in business until 2015. The building is now owned by the Ocracoke Preservation society, and though the additional wings have since been demolished, the original 1901 structure that housed the coffee shop still stands and is currently undergoing restoration.
