Just a little glimpse into a very special session. These two stole the show and my heart. Married for 60 years and so beautifully in love. I feel lucky to have been able to capture their sweetness. I teared up so many times with happy tears.

An unexpected feeling washed over me when I saw my little granddaughter standing in the doorway of the new studio. Emotions started to swirl inside. There is this gentle pull in so many directions as a young grandmother. I am still in the middle of creating who I am while being blessed with the sweetest little one overwhelmed by a Iove that I have never felt before.

In the busy moments of play there is nothing like getting to surrender and explore the world through her eyes. What a beautiful reminder of how special this world can be.

In the quiet moments of busy I hope that the she is finding a home in what I am creating and learning that she too can be anything that she believes.

That I hope is the magic of us growing up together. She gifts me with the beauty of slowing down to play and I teach her that she can be anything she dreams of.

The studio is progressing! Construction starts tomorrow and the dream starts to become reality.

It is graduation season and we are celebrating with so many of our clients. This one hit me in all of the feels. Baby sister is graduating from high school and I just love how her big sisters came to celebrate her.

There is nothing like getting to watch these little girls grow up together the last few years. I feel so lucky.

A few weeks ago I shared our mission statement as a way of welcoming you behind the scenes in a new way. You have seen pictures of me photographing people but there is so much more that goes into what we create here. Way before your session there is the heart of why we create for you. The beliefs we hold at our core here at the studio. It is through these beliefs that we make every decision and filter what is MOST important to us. Here is a little glimpse into the heart of what we believe for you, for us, and for the art we create together.

We believe in the incredible power of a photograph to pause time and to share what we love most. We believe that creating a photograph should be an experience that feels like a beautiful reminder of our why. We believe photographs should be held, displayed and cherished for generations.

We feel this deeply. We know the power of a photograph first hand and the ability it has to freeze time. That my friend is our super power. We can freeze your world in a beautiful and authentic way that reminds you of your very own why. Our dream is for you to feel even more connected to your purpose and love when you see your photographs, the beauty of what YOU are creating. We believe you should hold these beautiful memories in your hands and feel them around you in your home.

I hope you are feeling even closer to our why and the heart that goes into every session here at the studio. In this photo is my granddaughter. We blinked and she is about to turn 2. Freezing these moments so we can hold them forever is something we live by too. Look at the way she looks at herself.. this is my why.

There's these moments for me when I am scrolling through social media and I see my little clients that are growing as fast as my own kids and I get ALL of the feels. I have been lucky enough to watch this sweet boy grow since he was just born and now he is going into HIGH SCHOOL next year with a size 11.5 shoe.

I just can't. So thankful to be helping you freeze these sweet little moments before they are so grown up.

Hugging this momma today and all of the mommas with babies that are hitting major graduation milestones. It happens so fast, we are all in this together.

Until year after year we get to see it all coming together. Here is another addition to this amazing Story Wall in the play room. I love to think of the girls playing here while watching their love grow and grow in such a beautiful way.

I used to collect Guess ads out of magazines and wallpaper my wall with them in my teens. Do you know the ones? The black and white ads with the red letters at the bottom. Looking back it probably makes sense doesn't it? Black and white imagery stole my heart all of those years ago. I felt such a strong pull to it.

At 11 years old I called the 1-800 number to get information on a photography degree from the art institute. The booklets came and I remember pouring over them. Then the world happened. The messages from the outside said that art wasn't a job, it was a hobby... so I turned to the only other thing I loved, teaching.

I loved kids growing up. I was the first to run to my little cousins to play with them. I felt such a connection, so teaching made sense.

One of my first classrooms I filled with pictures of my students. I would bring my "fancy" camera from college into work and photograph my students playing. A few years later, like a rug being pulled out beneath me, I felt this immediate sense of urgency to leave my teaching job. It didn't make sense, I cried in my bed for two weeks. On the third week, I asked some of my parents from school if I could photograph their children... and Serena Nicole Studios was born.

One of the little girls I got to photograph a year into my business was this sweet girl. Getting to reconnect with her a few weeks ago MELTED me. She is a dream.

Imagine my full circle moment when this picture popped up on my screen... do you see it? This would be the perfect GUESS ad. It made me tear up as I felt this incredible connection to my younger self.

Looking back and every little thing has been leading me right here to you. I hope with my whole heart that you can feel it. That when we create together, it is so much more than just a photograph... there has been a whole life in motion lining up for the beautiful purpose of capturing your love.

It barely feels real. We have keys.This has been over a decade in the making. The details have changed over the years but the heart has never wandered.

Since I left my Germany studio I have been wishing for a place to call home for our studio family once again.

A place that I can welcome you into my world in a whole new way. A place that is yours as much as it is mine. A place that encourages creativity, community and warmth for everyone who walks through the door.

Well my friends, it's really happening. Our cozy home awaits.

Before I can welcome you in, I must do away with the 90's and build it brand new. Construction has begun and it looks like we will be celebrating our grand opening with you early this summer.

There are times in life when the kindness of others fills your heart with an abundance of gratitude. To capture emotion as art through heartfelt connection, service and gratitude.This is our mission statement here at the studio. Funny this morning I realized I have never really shared this with you. Everything we do all wrapped up into one little sentence like a little package.

A little package with so much heart. My wish is that you feel our heartfelt love towards your photography experience. For us it goes so much deeper than just getting family pictures done.

We create space for a deeper connection with our clients. We believe creating this connection shows in your portraits. It shows up as authenticity, ease and connection. So that what is captured is real and beautiful.

Let's be real anyone can take your picture. But there is a difference, a big difference in how your portrait experience will FEEL when you are deeply cared for.

There is heart in every step of what we do. Our truest wish is that we show up and serve you in the ways that you need most. From getting ready for your session to professionally installing your art for you. Our love tank is fullest when we get to take care of you.

Gorgeous Molly, I loved every minute with you! What is not so gorgeous is me getting this shot!!! Go ahead, swipe! Imagine all the noises it took for me to get up, it's ok I will laugh with you! Almost 20 years of putting myself in the craziest positions! I felt this one probably looked a bit crazy but Shelby had to get proof!

Every once in a while I meet a mom that takes my breath away. A mom that captivates all of the qualities of a super hero and then is asked to take it to another level.

This sweet mom is one of those.

I have been lucky enough to have a front row seat to this mother's fight for almost a decade. She has enlightened so many of us to an important cause, to end Duchenne, one of the most severe forms of inherited muscular dystrophy.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. There currently is not a cure and DMD affects males almost exclusively at 1 in every 3500 male births. New gene-based therapies have emerged with noted advances and that brings so much hope to this community.

Colleen is often in Washington DC as a spokesperson sharing the pressing needs and concerns of the Duchenne community. When not in DC you can find her organizing her yearly kickball tournament, Kick to Cure Duchenne, that raises proceeds to benefit Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy that will help many special families battling Duchenne. When not advocating both big and small Colleen is a beautiful mother to her 3 children, keeping up with all of the sports activities and schedules with her wonderful husband. Such a sweet family full of love.

Colleen, there is one thing that has always stood out to me about you. Your heart. I believe your Facebook banner says it best, fighting for EVERY future. That is you at your core, a heart that wants the best for everyone. Thank you for sharing your sweet family with me.

Pushing pause on time. As a mother I wish I could freeze this moment. Ever feel that way?

Today is the last day that my youngest will be 13. Tomorrow feels big, grown, so beyond what my heart is ready for. Today, I wish I could freeze this last day of 13 forever.

How on earth did we get here? When I sit in these quiet moments and reflect, I am amazed at how fast our days have gone by and how much more I still want to pour into my little boy, the baby of my three boys.

When I get quiet there are so many things that fill my heart. So many dreams I have for him, for the two of us. So I vow to pause. Take note and take action. Make time for all those little pulls from my heart.

Maybe that is the secret to time. If we pause, get still and follow our heart to do the things that nudge us most we get more connection doing what is most important to us. This busy world has a hum that pulls us away. The pause is the secret to getting to feel our time with our babies.

After losing my mother in my early 20’s, I wanted to hold on to any parts of her that I could. She had boxes and boxes of photographs that she had saved. As I went through the years, I watched my siblings and I grow up, holidays pass by, all the adventures. But I was looking for something. I was missing something. Her. I wanted to see her smile, I wanted to see her happy and healthy. It’s how I would introduce my daughter to her grandmother. As mothers we watch our little ones get older and we understand the importance of investing in portraits that tell the story of our children growing up. I have learned It is equally important that we give our children the story of us too.

This sweet family means the world to me. I have been lucky to get to be photographing their love since our TEENAGER was born. I can't believe he is already so grown up. I have had a love for the Duchenne community since I first met Brendan and his mom Colleen almost a decade ago. If you have followed along in our previous posts you know that she is a warrior in the fight to end Duchenne and can be found in D.C. and in the community raising awareness. She is a true inspiration to me. What is Duchenne? Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most common muscular dystrophy in children. It is a progressive disorder that causes muscles to become weaker over time until it affects the whole body. Duchenne is not contagious. About one out of every 5,000 boys has Duchenne, and about 20,000 babies worldwide are born with it each year. Duchenne mostly affects boys and reaches across all races and cultures. This year the Parent Project Muscular Duchenne conference was held in Orlando and I was asked to photograph their event. Loving this community is so easy what I didn't know was what I would get back. I walked in on the first day and you could feel the love immediately. Over a THOUSAND families were there with their loved ones. Getting to connect and interact with these families was the true gift. Sharing stories and hugs and my heart was full beyond what I knew was possible. Watching the families support one another time and time again and I was in awe. From newly diagnosed to veterans the compassion and care for one another was so heartfelt. But my favorite were the boys!!! Popping into these rooms of teenage boys supporting each other, playing games, and goofing off and they stole my heart. When I think about the gifts that I have received getting to photograph this life, it is the invitation into incredible communities and families that will always be at the heart of my why. The PPMD community was inspirational and one that I will always champion for they are making an incredible difference in so many lives.

Back to YOU! Yes you TWO. I love my time with just the two of you. We always try to make a little time to get back to the heart of your family. It is so important to also capture your love over the years. Celebrating our journey as a couple as we go together through all of the milestones of our family. Moving through life with babies all the way to teenagers is quite a ride. One that the two of you will remember TOGETHER forever. So let's make time for you and celebrate all that you have survived together! Love, love, love watching these little ones grow. When I first met mom she was pregnant with R and now she is looking into middle school for his big brother B. We have had some really sweet memories together over the years. I had quite the giggle at our session this year when I learned that some of my funny antics (insert silly potty humor) to make these boys smile over the years has officially stood the test of time and they still quote me! Uh oh!!! There is one sweet thing that has also never changed, the love of these two boys. They have such a special connection. This morning I woke up beachside after a wonderful night photographing a family in Pensacola. I crawled out of bed and headed out for a morning walk on the beach. What a beautiful way to start the day. I was surprised to have such a revelation that I think is so important for both of us. I’ll tell you all about it, come walk with me.

One thing I adore about storyteller sessions is how customized they are to each family. Tiffany has a picture of herself and her sister holding their favorite stuffed animals from when they were kids and she really wanted to have one of her kids. So we made it happen and the sweetness is on OVERLOAD!!!! What is special for your family right now? Let's get it captured in the most adorable way!

There is this little pocket of time that has become one of my favorites. After our session my heart is plump full from getting to spend so much time with you. After our last waves as you drive away, I have found another sweet time. My time alone with Tyler. After many of our sessions we stay back and hang out for our a while. I put my gear down (you wouldn't believe how heavy it is!!!) and I get to laugh and talk with Tyler as he gets extra footage for your film. It is a special time for me because I am not working and so I can just soak up his creativity. Like this night when he said hey mom, look up! And here we are, having some of that quiet, quality time that makes this momma's heart so full. We laughed later as we noticed we both put up the peace sign! Must be the seven years we spent in Japan that still lives in us! In Japan its customary that when the camera is out so are the peace signs! So many feels. Is there a special time that you have with your children? One that you cherish? I would love to hear all about it.

There are no words for the love that I have for this family. Jill and I clicked from the first time we met and now she has trusted me with documenting her family since little B was first born. Jill and I dream and then she fully trusts me to bring it to life, this is where the magic happens for me. To be able to create so freely gives way to authenticity that you cannot get any other way. To be able to do this alongside with Tyler is everything. To see that he sees what I see in his own amazing way is a gift to this Momma's heart.
