When I type a post, I do get a laugh when the little box says "what's on your mind?"...oh, I wouldn't even do that to you, it's a bit messy in there some days! 😳

It appears y'all are loving the return of the TaffelTown reuben, as well as the fresh grilled salmon and hot beef plate. I will keep this menu for a few more weeks, then switch it up, with a few new items.

TaffelTown now has her own beer! Our friends at Stone Hound Brewing, created a fantastic Kolsch style brew for us, and since we've heard these words a million times, "Back in the Day" is what we named it. Now on the Tap Stage, for all to enjoy! 👍

Always feelin' groovy, at TaffelTown Lodge.

We are excited to be back on schedule this week! It's always a bit weird to close, but sometimes, we just have to pick our battles.

I've returned from the open road - well, as much open road I was allowed at this time - and Deano jacked his back up real good, so didn't get as many check-offs done as he would have liked, but we still have all of our fingers and toes.

Attached is our new menu for the month of July, and since I'm a bit behind, I'll likely keep it going for a few more weeks.

You've been waiting patiently for the TaffelTown Reuben to make a return, so here ya go! We also have fresh grilled salmon off the charcoal Webber, and Deano has been wanting me to do a Hot Beef Plate...I agreed, but it's gotta be my way - served over one of those glorious hand made dinner rolls, and my house made gravy. That gravy is a love/hate for me...I only do small batch cooking, so it takes me 8, 10, 12 small batches to get thru the night.

We look forward to having your good energy at our tables!

I always keep my promise to Deano, complete my circle, and return home safely. My second shortest Convention ride at 1056 miles and only 3 states, but worth every mile, to hug my Sisters in Blue! 💙

After unpacking the bike, and making sure my gear was dry and restored, I realized my trunk was quite the pig sty…so I did a little housekeeping.

I love a good adventure, but always look forward to my return to Northern Michigan. ❤️

I’m kind of a “throw a dart at a map” girl, so that’s what I did for my play date with the ‘ol 98 on Wednesday.

The weather was more inviting for a stay in bed day, but I put on the rain gear and hit the road. About an hour in, I pulled off for gas, and could hear the weather siren blaring from the exit…not the first time I have had to find shelter at a truck stop. Oh, and twice under an overpass. ⛈

The town of Marietta, OH, was where ”the dart hit the map”, and I found a nice twisty road, that followed alongside the Little Muskingum River. OH-26, with it’s banked curves, was my perfect cupcake, and the covered bridges were the sprinkles on top! The only disappointment was the fresh tar and loose gravel…dang! Was good practice to hone my riding skills, so I counted it as a win!

I am a Motor Maid, and I choose to ride vintage bikes, so need to keep a spare, since one is usually in the shop. 🤣

This year, me and my old girl, the White Devil, are back together - yay! The two of us have travelled well over 100,000 miles together, mostly solo, criss-crossing the back roads of our beautiful country.

The Motor Maids Annual Convention is held in Dublin OH this year, so I rode away Monday morning, in the rain, and chose a country route to clear the mind. The sun came out in the afternoon, and the swampy rain gear had to go! I enjoyed the afternoon, working on my “biker sunburn”, and now look the part! 😎

Deano is pretty entertaining, when asked about my riding…
Someone asked where Convention was this year, and he says “Ohio…a lunch run for her”. Also, when asked if he ever rides along with me, his reply is “I’d need a space ship to keep up with her!” 🤣🤣 If you know, you know…

Tomorrow, I plan to enjoy a day of exploring, and will bring you along for the ride. ☀️

I have had all of our communication avenues updated, but just a reminder that the restaurant is closed, while we wrap up a few construction projects, and will re-open on July 17, for our regular hours of Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays 4-9 pm.

Peace and Love

June 2024 is almost in the rear view - my gosh!!

I've kept our crowd pleaser "Not Your Mamas Meatloaf" on the regular menu, and it will stay thru July 5th. This week, I've replaced the sliders with a local favorite - Ebel's Vienna Franks - these were a big hit at our Vintage Sled Show in January.

Come on out Wednesday, July 3, as we welcome Aaron Dye, back to the Antler Room. Music starts at 6pm.

☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

👉 Emerging from the backroads and waterways of Northern Michigan, Aaron Dye is a singer-songwriter whose folk-rock country roots reflect the rugged beauty of his homeland. Influenced by the echoes of Lowell George, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Waylon Jennings, and John Prine, Aaron's sound encapsulates the spirit of these musical legends. From George's swampy grooves to the soulful slide of Cooder, each influence finds its place in Aaron's unique sonic tapestry. He has had an impressive 20-year journey as a musician that led him from the Great Lakes, over the Great Divide to the Pacific Ocean and back. In that time, Aaron played guitar and bass for many incredibly talented musicians. He has assembled and fronted more than a few bands, the most recent being StoneFolk. His music is Salt of the Earth and a rootsy combination of traditionalist song craft, delivered with a fresh, distinctive twist. It offers heartfelt snapshots from all sides of the human experience, evoking a sense of warmth and real moments of wonder. A mix of welcome familiarity and a true feeling of genuine discovery. It is a beautiful fusion of soulful expression, restless curiosity, and a genre-wandering style that journeys into deep waters and moves you.

☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

We are wrapping up the last of the construction projects on the patio area, and I hope to have it ready for guests, after I return from my Motor Maids Convention on July 12.

Peace, Love and Good Vibes - Always Free at TaffelTown Lodge!

Deano and I have been very busy for several months, and with our big projects under control, we are wrapping up loose ends, and starting our new lists….”lists”…such a love/hate word. 😂

One project I am looking forward to seeing completed is my greenhouse. Deano and our friend Fred, finished a little shed to store my gardening tools, and the greenhouse will sit on a foundation, and be attached to the backside. Everything will finally be at hand, instead of walking 842 miles to gather tools…forgetting tools…and forgetting what I went for, when walking said miles, to get the tools. Y’all know what I’m talking about!

Meatloaf is on the menu this week, and as always, I do small batch cooking, so when it’s gone, it’s gone. Also, wait for it…fresh greens are back in the house! Yay!

We look forward to your good energy at our tables!

Deano is a machine! He is in that mode of not being able to sleep…up working in the dark, and working until well into the darkness. I miss him. ❤️

There is never enough time in a day, but we are both determined to knock out a few more projects, before the wedding next week, and then settle into our summer groove. The couple getting married, are two kind and beautiful people - we want TaffelTown to be as perfect as we can make her, for their day. ☀️

Our summer hours are Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 4-9 pm. We will have live music on wed, June 5, from 6-9 pm, and will slowly fill in the schedule, and keep the calendar updated.

Come on over to our house for dinner - we enjoy having you!

I have this wonderful little stash of postcards, I keep in a wooden box - they are a reminder of my Grandma G. I revisit them every so often, and think of how she loved to write letters, and cards, and felt the importance of saving the ones she received.

She had the most beautiful handwriting...something that did not get passed down to me. 😕

This card was postmarked Nov 13, 1946 - sent to Isabel, my Grandma, and signed Love Marshall, my Grandpa I never met.

It's just a blur somedays, when I look back and see the wake, as we plowed thru the mountain of work we purchased....well, not plowed thru, but crawled thru. 🤣

At first, I decided never to show the before photos of the kitchen - I said "no one will ever eat here, if I show these". Now that I have made the kitchen my own humble space, it feels like home, and I am proud to share.

My first job, after I moved on from the farm life, was at The Food Mill restaurant, in Greenville, MI. It was a small husband & wife owned restaurant, Ruth cooked, and spent hours making outstanding hand made food, and John seated guests, and waited tables when we were busy. It was truly a team effort, with everyone taking a turn at dishes, bussing tables, kitchen prep, filling the salad bar, and clean up.

The success of the restaurant, was built on good 'ol responsibility, work ethic, and having the owners as an important part of the daily routine. I owe everything I learned about the restaurant business, to these two wonderful people, who took a chance and hired a painfully shy kid.

Deano & I are at the point, where we have grown our little business, to where we could use a bit more help. To this point, our wonderful friends have jumped in, and helped us to build our base, and we don't feel it's fair of us, to keep asking of their time.

We are asking our TaffelTown Family and Friends, to reach out, if they have any working age children, or grand children, that would be looking for a first job. Deano & I have been working since our single digit ages, and are willing to be patient "teachers", as our "teachers" were patient with us. ❤️

Another thought, since we are seasonal, and have limited hours - please reach out if you would just like a job for a little "fun money". We do not need a bartender, but Deano could use another helper with the dining area. If you are retired (and bored), this might be a fun filler...we are "retired" too...but no time for boredom. 😂

Please reach out to us on the TaffelTown Hotline @ 231.564.1203, or drop us an email at [email protected], if you know of someone who would like to join our little team. Since messages on FB messenger end up in a black hole, I have an automated response, directing communication to these alternatives.

We are who we are, because of you. Thanks for all of your love and support - it keeps us motivated to get up, and tackle the hurdles of each new day!

We have been putting in plenty of hours, lovin’ on our TaffelTown, and getting many more items checked off the to-do list. It feels great!!

Deano, and our friend Jimmer, prepped and painted the back exterior of the Antler Room, and it’s all coming together nicely.

Cousin Jason offered a day of help, and put a walkway in, to cross the dry creek in the patio area. He also started laying the pavers in the entrance and grilling areas. I really like it!

With a wedding in 2 weeks, I’ve been gardening up a storm, so the property will look so pretty for the upcoming event. My happy bubble is at capacity!!

Today will be our opening day for the season, with regular weekly hours Wednesday thru Friday, 4-9 pm. We will be slowly filling in the schedule with live music on Wednesdays, starting at 6pm.

This week, Friday, May 24, we will be closed. We thought we had the schedule covered, but had a last minute change that we could not fill. I’ll have all avenues of communication updated with this change, and we will get back on schedule next week.

I have attached a simple menu, to get the ball rolling again, and help me get back in the groove. The first batch of TaffelTown sautéed mushrooms for the season, are simmering on the stove, and really stinking the place up! 😀

It will be nice to have a routine again, and we are excited to welcome you all back at our house!

Hugs are always free at TaffelTown Lodge! ❤️

Feeling thankful for this early spring...although I still think it's a trick!

Our Mother's Day Reservation Dinner has filled in nicely, so if you would like to join us at our tables, please give Deano a call on the TaffelTown Hotline @ 231.564.1203, and add your party to our list. We will accept reservations thru end of day Friday, so I can shop the freshest I can get. It is always nice to have your good energy in our house! ❤️

Deano & I have been taking advantage of every second of daylight, and putting up a work light, if needed.

He has been determined to wrap up the retaining wall he started last year. Being a perfectionist to a fault, projects take time....lot's of time. The majority of the old patio and sidewalks have been repurposed into keeping water flowing away from the building, not into it. As always, Cassie is an expert in excavating. 👍

I've been doing a lot of planting, and getting areas looking nice for the summer. My dry creek project thru the patio has also taken a bit of time...kind of like putting together a puzzle. My pile of rocks dwindled, and my "puzzle" has slowed to a halt. I was joking with Deano saying I don't need a GoFundMe, I need a GoRockMe...instead of asking for a dollar, ask for a rock. 🤣🤣

We are counting the days until we open for the season on May 22, and I will update the Event Calendar, when I come up for air.

Go out and help someone have a great day!!

I got a wild hair up my behind on Saturday, and spent 4 days making the ideas in my head a reality…when I should have been putting together a menu, and getting it posted. I am the Queen at getting off on a rabbit-trail at this place...

Taking advantage of this early, spring like weather (we all know its a trick), by getting a bunch of planting done, and another layer of grass seed down. Several white pines were transplanted, to define the Bridal Path to the Hemlock Wedding Garden - I don’t have many photos, but you get the gist of it. Deano helped me with a shaded, seating area for the Bride, as she prepares to walk up to the gates, and into the ceremony.

Here is our little menu for this week, and we look forward to having your love and laughter in the house!

Next week is the National Trout Festival, and TaffelTown Lodge will be open for dinner on April 25 & 26, from 4-9 pm - I will have the menu posted next week. You will also find a teaser for our Mother's Day Reservation Dinner on May 12, 2024. Give Deano a call on the TaffelTown Hotline @ 231.564.1203, if you would like to be added to our seating list.

The warmer weather had us moving outside, to work on a long list of projects. Deano & Logan finished the first phase of getting a retaining wall in place, for the lower level of the patio. Deano & Glen did the fill, and leveled things out a bit, and I started the stone work in the dry creek. It is a work in progress, like everything around here, but is another step to growing into this new space.

I've been in the gardens, and feel like I have an endless job keeping the rabbits and deer from destroying my efforts. This year I have been spraying weekly, and so far, it looks to be working, and I have pretty blooms everywhere - yay!

The last couple of weeks have been a bit tough, as we said goodbye to a loved member of our tiny family. Time will heal...it usually does.

Take good care of each other, and we look forward to seeing your smiley faces soon!

April 4, 2020 - yep, the restrooms really needed some attention!

👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

Bathroom demo @ TaffelTown. Wishfull thinking this could be the last, big, dirty job...or not. Stalls were old-school-tiny, so everything was removed and a new layout was created, to make better use of the available footprint. We power washed all fixtures, to see what could be salvaged, and talked about the day when we will look back, and laugh at ourselves for taking on this labor of love.

We have zero regrets, and have enjoyed lovin' on our TaffelTown! ❤️

My former method of getting hot water, was a pot on a single burner. Deano finally finished the plumbing for the hot water heater, and p**f - instant hotness!! This lead to moving everything from the Antler Room, to the dance floor, and cleaning carpets. Spring is in the air!!

I am at a loss for a good story, not that we have not had a few - we've been clicking off projects on our to-do list, hosting our special events and reservations dinners, and placing bets on where the weather will go next. I could have enjoyed miles on the snowboard and motorcycle in the same week! ☀️❄️

After looking at the date on the calendar, and realizing its been almost a month since I've been here, the look on my face must have seemed a bit confused. We take advantage of our "off season" months, and really get after it - time is flying by!

We are looking forward to having our corned beef dinner menu on Thursday & Friday, March 14 & 15, from 4-9 pm, with a short break before our Easter Sunday reservation dinner. Your support during our "off season" dates help us to earn funds to keep pushing that cart up the hill - sometimes it feels like we are cramming for an exam. 🤣

Here's what we are planning for the menu, and a little info for our Easter Sunday. If you would like to join us for Easter, please give Deano a call on the TaffelTown Hotline @ 231.564.1203, and he will add you to our reservation list.

So, January felt like 3 months long, and now we are almost half way thru February...that's crazy talk!

It's been fun for Deano to take reservations for our Valentines Dinner - he loves to talk to everyone ranging from return Guests, to "we've heard about...", "we've been wanting to come...", "this is our first time...", "we are driving in from out of state...". It all makes me goose-bumpy, waiting to see the dining room full of like-minded folks, sharing a meal at our tables.

We do these reservation dinners, so we can serve the freshest food we can get our hands on - locally sourced, and made from scratch, right here in my humble little kitchen. ❤️

These dinners are a real joy for me, and I also get to play with my arsenal of vintage china and table settings. My hopes are that your time with us will be a unique, outside-the-box experience, and you walk out the door with a happy heart, and a few new friends.

TaffelTown changes her costumes quickly...full blown Vintage Christmas, to Vintage Sled Show winter decor, to Valentine Love...she's kind of like Cher. 😆

You will find our updated event calendar below, along with the teaser for our corned beef dinners, and I'll post the Thursday/Friday menus, when I dial in the availability of the last few items.

We look forward to having your good energy in the house!

Well hello there February!!

We made it thru the Winter Solstice, and the days are getting longer. I love everything about Winter, but this year, is seems she doesn't want to stick around.

We've been working some long days, cleaning up the aftermath of the Sled Show, regrouping, doing year end accounting, and putting love in the air at TaffelTown Lodge!

Here is the Valentine's Date Night Reservation Dinner flyer, and info for Wednesday, February 14, 2024. We already have quite a list started, just from the sign - thank you!!

Please give Deano a call on the TaffelTown Hotline at 231.564.1203, if you would like to make a reservation - we would love to have you join us!

OK, these have become my favorite photos!

Our friend Rusty, is an avid collector, and has been an important sounding board for my quirky questions and ideas. He was an important part of helping us to get this show rolling last year, and offering up ideas help us grow into this year. I trust his judgement, so need to give him credit, for all of the help he has offered. 🙂

Also last year, our friend Paul mentioned how much fun it would be to have a trail to ride...well he offered help, and we took him up on it. We already had a series of trails cut in, so we could hike and run the dogs - we just needed a connector section to make a loop.

I seriously got goose-bumpy watching those sleds ride the trail. For those who chose to enjoy the loop, my Sister's Wendy & Heather, got you some nice action photos!

Helpful hint: since our service is a step below sketchy, I have to load photos 4-6 at a time. So if you have jumped on any of my Sled Show posts early, you may want to check back, because it takes me a good half hour to see all of the photos show up. If the photos aren't your thing, well then, you are good. 🙂

After the showing of vintage attire last year, we thought it only fitting to add a People's Choice Vote for those who chose to participate. We are making plans to step it up a bit for next year, so start thinking about your best vintage, winter "costume". I say anything winter counts!

There was a bit of rivalry over the best dressed, but Connor (I didn't even get his last name), took the fashion trophy, with his coveted green suit. Nice find!!

Until next year...Vintage Clothes Matter - Dress Like It!!

I've been at a loss for words, when thinking about how to describe the Vintage Sled Show event, and thank those who joined our team to cover the many bases. I sound like a broken record, but with each effort we put out there, we continue to be brought to a new level of humble. Your patience, kindness and support have us very excited to start planning for our 2025 event, and grow it to the next level.

There is no way we could have moved the mountain ourselves with the Friday dinner menu and the Saturday event. The building was brimming with love, laughter and positive energy!

We put alot of trust in our TaffelTown Family - they know our vision and help us follow thru with our plan.

Steve and Bill were the fire keepers. Stacie took charge of registration for sleds & fashion, then delivering food & clearing tables. Our friend Skip kept an eye on the patio, and managed the gates. Tanya and Tim are a pair to be reckoned with, and are amazing at checking items off the to-do list. My Sister's Wendy & Heather, managed the voting, did a bit of greeting, and covered the event photos - I hope you all got to meet them!

Carol, Laura, Glen & Deano rocked the front, keeping food and beverage moving. They are a team like no other, and we are very lucky to have them as our Faces of TaffelTown.

My friend Lisa is my rock in the kitchen - when she is with me, I feel no worries - and because we have been friends since kindergarten, I trust her to pick up my pieces! Finally, Logan the Grill Master and my right hand during the season. He is a man of many hats, and powers thru the ticket rail with me for the dinner menus and special events. Our kitchen team of two, is small but mighty!

We had a People's Choice Vote for the favorite Sled and for the winner was awarded a custom trophy, designed and created by Dave at Gonyer Wood Concepts.

Mel Hill won the Sled trophy with his 1974 Panther - he purchased it new, and it arrived at the show, not on a trailer! The trophy included a vintage snowmobile belt buckle, and a place on the trophy to display it.

Thanks to my Sister's, I have an incredible archive of photos, and we were equally blessed with an incredible blanket of snow - wow! I have dumped a small selection of the photos here, and will do a separate post with the fashion photos, and People's Choice winner, as well as a post with fantastic action shots on the trail.

Because of your endless kindness and support, we find the strength to carry on!! Thank you to the moon and back!

Peace, love and good vibes

I've said it before - sometimes we feel like Jack & Wendy Torrence...caretakers of the Overlook Lodge! The Vintage Sled Show weekend is finally here, and we are looking forward to having your love and laughter in the house for a couple of days.

Me and my girl Florence (my bobcat), spent some needed time together, moving snow, and making space for parking. All of the available spaces for sleds have been filled, and we are ready for you all to come and enjoy the Snow-n-Tell!

Dave, at Gonyer Wood Concepts, designed and created this years trophies, and we will award a Peoples Choice vote for the favorite snowmobile, and the favorite vintage fashion. Votes will be counted, and the winners will be announced at 3:00 pm on Saturday.

I have attached the menus for Friday's dinner, and Saturday's event. Total cozy, comfort meals for friday, and rolling out a few fun items for the Saturday event.

This weekend also has me a bit goose-bumpy with excitement, because my sisters will be here with me, and my long time friend (since 4 yrs old), will be joining me in the kitchen. We also have several incredible friends, who have offered their time to help with the show. My happy bubble is at capacity!! ❤️

One more sleep!! See you soon!

Peace and Love
