During our journey for the recent river cruise our trans-Atlantic flights took us as far as Austria, where we spent one night at an airport hotel and then flew Austrian Airlines from Vienna to Zagreb. That was about a 1 hour flight, and for a little over $100 total we could upgrade to business class. While we certainly could have coped with flying coach for that short of a flight, we decided that it was well worth it to upgrade to business class mostly because of the perks....

Ft. Lauderdale was our embarkation and debarkation port, but for a Non-Stop flight from Phoenix we chose to fly into the Miami airport and stay at a Miami airport hotel with a RT shuttle both pre and post cruise. We choose the DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport. This was a slightly longer shuttle ride than the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn or Hilton Blue Lagoon....

We were scheduled to stop in Nassau, but high winds made it impossible for us to dock. We did receive a refund of our port charges. We had no excursions booked, but anyone booked through Royal Caribbean or a shore excursion provider with non-arrival guarantee, received a full refund for excursions. Instead, we got to enjoy another lovely sea day!

If you read a lot of my reviews, you have learned that I bring my office with me on cruises in the form of a Laptop and am able to keep my regular office hours by utilizing WiFi and VoIP calling. It works really well and the trade off is being able to take more cruises because I can run my business while I am traveling....

We always enjoy a visit to St. Maarten. This a a place with a wonderful beach, friendly people, good drinks and great shopping. We walked off the ship and stood in line to purchase our ferry tickets to down town. This is really inexpensive. A tip I can give you is to keep walking, as the first ferry ticket booth is very busy, but there are two more closer to the ferry with shorter lines....

Not much to report here, as this was my 3rd visit in 4 months to St. Kitts. On this trip, I just went ashore and bought some t-shirts in the local shopping area and headed back to the ship. Very pretty location and lovely island.

For this cruise, our dining review is focused on the specialty dining venues. We had both been somewhat disappointed with our main dining room experience on our past Royal Caribbean cruises, especially when compared to the food and service we experienced on our recent Celebrity, Holland America, Silversea and Seabourn cruises. This is really more of a slide show of the food on our cruise. I think that Celebrity has some of the best food at sea. The service in the main dining room is attentive and personalized. The food preparation is always spot on and the food comes out hot and on time. Our dining staff did an amazing job of taking care of the four of us....

This Ultimate Southern Caribbean cruise was the second time for us to take this cruise since November, and the 4th overall to many of these Southern Caribbean ports. The nice thing is that there is always something new to do. I enjoyed the scenic railway in St. Kitts and a waterfall swim in Dominica. The guest entertainers on the ship in Jan/Feb were completely different than the guest entertainments on board in Nov/Dec. Overall we absolutely loved the cruise.
