Even if your cruise line does not require you to have a passport, I STRONGLY recommend it for all international cruises. Not only is it convenient for getting on and off the ship, but it can really save the day if a health or family emergency requires you to quickly get back to the United States. Without a passport, you would have to get an emergency passport by visiting a U.S. embassy or consulate in order to fly home. Don't take the chance and pack your passport just in case. Find more tips at travel.state.gov/cruise.  

*Note: Passport cards cannot be used for international air travel, so I recommend bringing a regular passport book.

Seaweed, Sargassum, & Seagrass – What’s the Difference?

Clients often ask about the “seaweed” in the Mexican Caribbean, but not all of it is the same! Here’s a quick breakdown:

✅ Sargassum – The brown, floating algae that washes up seasonally. It comes from the Atlantic and is not harmful, but can have a strong smell when it accumulates.

✅ Seagrass – Found naturally in shallow waters, it’s an important part of the marine ecosystem, providing shelter for sea life. Resorts don’t remove it because it helps keep beaches from eroding!

✅ Seaweed – A general term for underwater plants/algae, but what most travelers notice is either sargassum or seagrass.

Sargassum is seasonal, but seagrass is a natural part of the ocean. 🌊🌊

🌴✈️ Did You Know? Leave the Camo at Home! 🚫🎯

Thinking about packing your favorite camo shorts or hat for your Caribbean getaway? Think again! In some Caribbean countries, wearing camouflage clothing is actually illegal—even for tourists.

🌎 Places with camo bans include:
❌ Jamaica
❌ Barbados
❌ St. Lucia
❌ Trinidad & Tobago
❌ Grenada (and more!)

In many of these destinations, camouflage patterns are strictly reserved for military personnel, and wearing them could result in fines or even confiscation of your clothing.

💡 True Story Time!
This actually happened to us on our first trip to Jamaica many years ago! Little did we know about the rule, and my husband had to strip down right there in the airport and swap shorts! 😳 They took the camo ones, wrapped them in a bag, and whisked them off to some office room. We were told we could collect them on our way back home! No kidding! 😂 Lesson learned.

💡 Tip: Stick to tropical prints, breezy linens, or classic resort wear instead. Save the camo for your backyard adventures, not your beach vacation!

Our day in St. Thomas didn’t go quite as planned—rainy weather on and off meant our beach plans had to wait for another trip! Instead, we explored the port center, which was fine but nothing overly impressive.

We did, however, find some great locally brewed IPAs at Leatherback Brewery and checked out the shops. The best views this time we're taken right from our balcony.

While we only got a glimpse of St. Thomas’ beauty, we’ll definitely be back to experience those famous beaches!

If you're sailing on Carnival Celebration, I recommend dining at Fahrenheit 555! I couldn’t get enough of the oysters — so good! And the melting chocolate lava cake? Delish! Great way to end a nice meal. 🍰
