Looking for something fun to do this Memorial Day weekend? Come join us at the Garden Jubilee in downtown Hendersonville on May 27-28!

If you're unsure about parking, don't worry! The closest place you'll be able to park is the downtown parking garage located at the corner of 5th Avenue and Church Street. Park in the garage and stay all day for just $1.50 per hour.

The Dogwood Parking lot is permit only on Saturday, May 27 but is free on Sunday, May 28. Additional parking is available on Main Street south of the event, and side streets just outside of Church and King.

It’s hard to believe, but Fall colors are going to grace our beautiful mountains soon. Check out the prediction for peak colors throughout WNC.

FALL COLOR IS COMING!
Here’s a handy map produced by the Appalachian State University Dept of Biology to get us thinking about the changes to come. This map differs from most other such maps because it combines the effects of both elevation and latitude on fall color, whereas most other maps simply use elevation alone. It is only an approximation.

SEPT 25th - OCT 2nd ⬇️
At the highest elevations, close to 6,000 feet there is some color, but it's often very spotty and muted. The views from these locations will be mostly green, since the areas viewed are lower elevations. Areas that turn early in this date and elevation range include Graveyard Fields and Rough Ridge.

OCT 2nd - 9th ⬇️
Peak time for areas above 5,000 feet. This would include: Clingmans Dome, Grandfather Mountain, Mount Mitchell, Waterrock K**b and Graveyard fields (the first location on the Parkway to turn) and higher elevations of The Blue Ridge Parkway (between Asheville and Cherokee) and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

OCT 9th - 16th ⬇️
Peak time for elevations from 4,000 - 5,000 feet. This would include almost all Blue Ridge Parkway locations and the majority of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as well. Included in this elevation are the Boone and Blowing Rock areas.

OCT 16th - 23rd ⬇️
Peak time for lower elevations, from 3,000 - 4,000 feet. This would include places like: Pisgah National Forest which includes Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls, Dill Falls, Wildcat Falls, and many other waterfalls. Other ares include Linville Gorge, Nantahala Gorge, Maggie Valley, and Cataloochee Valley.

OCT 23rd - 30th ⬇️
Peak time for elevations from 2,000 feet - 3,000 feet. This would include: The cities of Asheville, Brevard, Waynesville, Cherokee, and many others. Places of interest include Dupont State Forest and Biltmore Estate, and Cades Cove.

OCT 30th - NOV 6th ⬇️
Peak time for remaining elevations, including Gatlinburg, TN, Chimney Rock NC, Lake Lure and remaining lower elevation mountains. This includes Chimney Rock as well, a great place to see Fall color.

Please take a few minutes to learn some important tips you should know in order to prevent potential problems from the bears that are common in our mountains. We certainly like bears, but not inside our vehicles and homes. 🐻🌄🏡

It only takes a few minutes to lock up windows and doors (at home and for the car)... but it takes a lot longer to clean up after a bear visit. Take a few moments to check around your home to make sure you're not leaving an invitation for a bear to enter. Here's a short checklist:

* Don’t leave anything with an odor inside a screened-in porch or on or under the deck.

* If you live or are visiting an area with a lot of bear activity, close and lock ground floor and other bear-accessible windows and doors (that means upper-level windows and doors a bear could easily access by climbing up a convenient tree ladder or porch post.)

* Close your garage doors, especially if you store pet food, birdseed or garbage in there.

* Unless you’re using bear-resistant containers, use a trash bag inside a container with an airtight lid and use ammonia sachets to help mask any lingering odors (and store inside the garage until trask pick up day).

* If your garage has a flimsy panel door, it’s best not to store anything with an odor inside. (Hence the photo here - thank you, John Gage)
