Our visit to Evora Portugal,

The city Évora is a UNESCOWorld Heritage Site. The city is a well preserved medieval town. Much of the wall is in tact. Much of the architecture is Arabian. Our hotel was nestled within the city walls.

Capela dos Ossos, or Chapel of Bones, in Évora, Portugal

Built in the Early 1600’s by Franciscans as a chapel of contemplation and to convey the message of the fragility and temporariness of human life. At the roof of the chapel is the phrase “Melior est die mortis die nativitatis” (Better is the day of death than the day of death”.

The Chapels walls were built by the Franciscans and are covered and decorated with human skulls and bones.

The chapel's entrance features the sign “Nos Ossos Qve Aqvi Estamos Pelot’s Vossos Esperamos” (We bones that are here, for yours we wait")

We were in Evora and Algarve, Portugal today, April 25, 2025, which is the 50th anniversary of Portugal’s independence. It’s commonly called the Carnation Revolution. It’s a national holiday and celebrations are everywhere. Everyone took to the town squares at 12:01 am, 4/25 to celebrate with fireworks, parties, singing etc. Here’s a small taste of some of the performances.
