We had a wonderful time at the End of Year Celebration 2024! Our annual celebration is a way of showing our endless gratitude and appreciation for all our interpreters do to serve Washington's diverse ethnic communities by providing quality language accessibility. They truly do amazing work!

We'd like to give a special thanks to Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar for providing excellent food and drinks, as well as local musicians Simon Way on guitar and Anne Christine on ukulele for their delightful performance!

Additional thanks to Crystal and Ana for helping with set up, and to Jessica and Carlos who not only coordinated and set the music, but also sang for us as a special gift. We appreciate you! ❤️

Ensure Health Equity

Selene Rocha has a disability that restricts movement on the left side of her body. As a single mother, she relies on her 8-year daughter for almost everything.

Rocha is one of the 130,000 plus immigrants in the Kansas City area, many of whom are medically uninsured.

“Oftentimes medical care does get pushed down the priority list” says Andrea Perdomo-Morales, the chief health equity officer at Vibrant Health.

Perdomo-Morales notes that many immigrants, regardless of documentation status, must ask themselves: “If I ask off [from] work, am I at risk of being let go?”

Empower Change

Hollie Barnes and Amy Fryman are raising the standard of interpreting services available to Deaf and Hard-of-hearing members of their Wisconsin community.

“It used to be the Wild West, and anyone that knew a little bit of signing could show up to a doctor’s appointment and [act as] an interpreter,” says Fryman, who launched Professional Interpreting Enterprise (PIE) with Barnes in 1996.

“One of the reasons that Amy and I work so well is because we have two different perspectives,” Barnes, who is Deaf, signs.

“Amy brings what the interpreter’s perspective looks like, and I bring what the deaf consumer’s perspective looks like.”

We hope to see you all there!!!!!
