We spent the early part of the day today at Magic Kingdom. There are signs of the 50th Anniversary celebration (and Christmas) everywhere! We utilized the Genie + Lightning Lane service for Space Mountain and were able to walk right on.

We attended Disney’s Very Merriest After Hours event last night. The event lasted from 9pm until 1am but we were able to enter the park at 7pm with this special event ticket. Lots of snacks like popcorn, cookies and Mickey ice cream as well as hot chocolate and soft drinks were offered through the parks. Most attractions had minimal waits (15 minutes for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train) and special parades and fireworks

We spent the last couple of days at Universal Orlando Resort. Our first day was probably the busiest I’ve seen but having Express Pass was a lifesaver. Our second day was probably the least busy I’ve seen and it was nice to leisurely walk around and do everything we wanted (still utilizing Express Pass).

I decided not to make a dinner reservation for tonight but instead went to enjoy what has become my second favorite spot on the ship (my hammock being the first). The Dock (not to be confused with The Dock House just inside) is on the very back of the ship and could almost go unnoticed. This restaurant serves Mediterranean small plates. Some of the dishes are available from the Mezzo cart and other items can be ordered from the grill. It’s a great place for an afternoon snack and to catch a nice breeze. It also offers a beautiful view!
I came here every day, I promise this is not all from one sitting.

I came back from breakfast to find my reconfigured room. Before I left, I selected the “Bed…” option on the handy dandy tablet and asked for the couch configuration for the day. This tablet is a very efficient way to communicate with the stateroom host. Also, I drink lots of water, so almost every time I leave my room I make a request for water (you can choose still, sparkling or both and ice if you want). When I come back I have 2 fresh carafes waiting for me.

I went back to The Wake this morning for breakfast. I asked for a table by any window…. What a great view! In addition to regular breakfast you can choose a “bottomless brunch” option which includes unlimited mimosas or Bloody Marys for an additional cost. I stuck with coffee today. This was a lot of food for breakfast and I even passed on the starter and dessert.

The nightlife on The Scarlet Lady is over the top! There are numerous bars and clubs and a casino. Last night was Scarlet Night and everyone was encouraged to wear something red. There was a roving party that moved around the ship. I started following as the entertainers we’re playing folk music and doing a skit in the Sip Lounge (champagne bar). We then moved to The Roundabout (just as it sounds) to witness an impromptu wedding (just another skit). From there we moved to the “reception “ in The Manor, a glitzy dance club with mirrors and sparkles everywhere.
Tonight I went to a show called Duel Reality. It was Romeo and Juliet meets West Side Story with a splash of Cirque du Soleil! Flash photography was not allowed so I didn’t take any pics. It was very entertaining and the actors/dancers/acrobats were amazingly talented.
That’s about the extent of the nightlife I’ve experienced as my favorite spot on the ship is the hammock on my balcony. This is my preferred nightlife scene where I can listen to the waves crashing and the dance music coming from the pool deck (until my “neighbors” come out on their balcony and start making bird calls 😳 that’s my queue to go in for the night).

I’ll have to say the theme for tonight was decadence! Dinner was at The Wake which is a very elegant “steakhouse” restaurant. Upon checking in you are lead down a curved staircase to the dining area. There are great views of the ocean from about every angle. I had my mind set on steak when I walked in but discovered the salt-crusted dorade, which is a light Mediterranean fish. It is covered and cooked in salt and then presented table side. More food mentions in the pics…

Tonight I was able to visit the restaurant that I have been looking forward to since I first heard about Virgin Voyages, The Test Kitchen! The restaurant is designed to mimic a laboratory, even the servers wear long white tunic like shirts that look like lab coats. there is no menu, just a list of ingredients that will be used. They also offer beer, wine, and cocktail pairings. I sat by myself but it wasn’t long before I was chatting with the people sitting nearby. The settings in the restaurants are definitely conducive to making new friends.

This afternoon I enjoyed the Shot for Shot class which combines mixology and photography (because who doesn’t post everything they eat and drink these days, am I right?). We were shown how to make 4 different cocktails then took photos of each of them in different settings. My photography skills could use some work but I think I excelled in the mixology portion (maybe just the tasting)!

The first activity for today was Work It: Hair Styling Workshop, with a stylist at the Dry Dock salon. I had to make a reservation for this session. She spoke with us about hair care and types products. At the conclusion she offered to braid our hair, so of course I had to take her up on it.

Up bright and semi-early for a walk around the track then breakfast at Razzle Dazzle! I went for the Avo Toast but stayed for the bacon! This veggie forward restaurant offers unique takes on some breakfast favorites. I laughed with my server as we discussed which items were “real” and which were plant-based. He assured me that the bacon was real. Afterwards I headed over to Grounds Coffee looking for not just ordinary coffee. The Black Cat Fizz, made of espresso, tonic and orange syrup, is anything but ordinary!

Tonight’s last minute dinner choice (because I had reservations at an Italian themed spot but could not stop thinking about this place) was Gunbae Korean BBQ. Even though I consider myself an adventurous eater, I was nervous to try this place, but I’m so glad I did. The food was amazingly delicious! We started with some small plates (not pictured because I ate them too quickly, but the mixed seafood “corn dog” was probably my favorite taste of the night), then a rice bowl followed by bbq meat prepared on our table grill. Seating is kind of a communal style and you are placed with people you may not know. I sat with a married couple and a set of friends. The servers play an icebreaker game and it really helps to loosen the mood and get to know each other.
I should also mention that the hostess was so welcoming and helpful. She talked to me extensively about the menu before I committed and even gave me a quick tour of the restaurant to explain how everything worked.
