Stopped in on the Woodinville In-Person Foundations Mixed Class today. Looks like Erica is working with two nice teams. Sage and Spice did a nice job working on truffle scent targets!
I think along with Victoria’s on line class and Erica’s in person class you will have a very reliable truffle dog !

Please meet TDC Alum and friend Zoë (or Z-bear as she's known) for this

This intelligent, sensitive, and highly energetic Lagotto Romagnolo has an incredible story— Zoe began her scent work at just 3 months old, finding her first truffle a few months later, and has since been eager to please in her quest for more. Her passion for truffle hunting is truly remarkable, and it’s clear she was bred for it! Now at 5 years old, Zoe still retains her playful puppy spirit and adores her basket of toys that are typically sprawled across the living room daily.

A note from Zoe’s Mom:
“As someone who works in learning development, I adapted various techniques from the trainers who supported us and read quite a bit about truffle hunting. I believe the training consistency, intention, and salmon treats created a personal connection that allowed us to master the art of truffle hunting together. A little fun fact: Zoe has a palate for fine food and loves truffles and quickly learned that if she eats a truffle—NO TREATS for her!

During the Covid pandemic, we embraced the great outdoors, spending most weekends foraging for wild edibles and truffle hunting. This became our safe way to connect with friends and Zoe's with doggo truffle buddies. Every hunt is a new adventure filled with cherished memories!

I never dreamed how much Zoe and truffle hunting would change my life. She’s a special pup who has deepened my appreciation for nature, helped me reclaim my health through countless miles of hiking, and restored a sense of balance in my life that had previously been overtaken by work. Z-Bear, as I affectionately call her, is truly a blessing in my life!”

If you too would like to learn to hunt truffles like Z-bear here and forage in the woods for edible goodies, there are only a few spots left in our last Foundations classes starting in about 1 week. Aside from the mixed-level in-person class in Woodinville in Dec, this is our LAST F1 class starting this year- so don’t hesitate to sign up if you like to join Zoe in the woods this season! https://truffledogcompany.com/product-category/instruction-all/online-classes/foundations-1/

This week at we celebrate the littles! Meet Fern (pictured right, with her best friend Ella).

Born in 2020 on the mean streets of Texas, Loretta, now known as Fern, has made the best of her humble beginnings. A true pandemic puppy, Fern was transported to Washington after her dog mom spent countless nights scrolling on Petfinder.com during COVID quarantine. She was a wee 3 months old and weighed in at only 5 lbs, and it was love at first sight (for dog mom at least, the greyhounds of the house might have felt otherwise). Always the curious and rambunctious one, Fern would get into all sorts of trouble, of which sniffing out p**p in the backyard became her forte. Dog mom decided to channel her evil to good, and enrolled Fern in scent work classes, and eventually Truffle Hunting with Truffle Dog Company. With 2023 being her first season, she's very much still on Team Green, but continues to work on her tolerance of distractions and her dog mom's tigering spirit. Luckily, she's a very resilient dog and we're hoping for a miracle in 2024.

*Our Note* We LOVE Fern here (and her mom) and it’s a testament to little dogs everywhere but also determination and resilience. It’s not always straightforward to have a truffle pup out hunting but Fern is doing great and enjoying the process.

We missed this week, but for good reason! We were scouting locations, preparing events, and taking some chefs out chanterelle hunting- so you can enjoy the foraged feasts in future weeks.

You too can join in on a 'crazy for chanterelles' hunt collaboration with Savor the Wild Tours on 2 specific dates- October. 20th & Nov. 17th.

So enjoy Flora & Mora's forest adventure (Mora’s first *real* outing and Flora even found early season truffles!), and consider joining these fluffy gals on wild adventures (NOW AVAILABLE FOR SIGN UP) or Truffle Tromps this winter either here in the PNW or at events up and down the west coast on Truffières in Oregon at our growers workshops with Cartwright Truffiere or wine & truffle lunches and dinners at Caelesta Winery on the Central Coast of California! Check out the Link for our newsletter and a complete list of upcoming events this season.

This Truffle Dog Tuesday we celebrate one of our favorite Hunting Doodles! You heard that right- please meet Lira. Lira is an Australian Labradoodle. She loves to spend time outdoors every single day and enjoys truffle hunting, bird hunting, fishing, and carrying big sticks when she hikes.

Lira is one of those special pups who has earned the “quad-fecta” (It’s not a word- we’re making it one, just for her.) Mushroom & truffle hunting in the morning, fishing, and bird hunting all in one day! She’s a superstar. You can follow along on her adventures on IG

Stay tuned later this week for announcements on more Mushroom hunts this fall (unless Lira finds them all!) with our friends at and Truffle Alum Moshe, and Regional Area Mushroom Shows.

Thanks to Lira & Tim Harris

This Truffle Dog Tuesday, meet Ruth, a half-cattle dog adopted from Texas, now living in Portland, Oregon. Ruth's Humans, Paul & Kathryn, knew they wanted to truffle hunt, and thought her working dog background was perfect. She excelled at truffle hunting (toughing it out in the rain—something she usually hates). Her first truffle find was pure luck, sitting right on top of the moss, but she’s been unstoppable ever since. Paul & Kathryn started training Ruth when she was about 5 months old and they quickly learned she'll do mostly anything for the right treat!

Ruth especially loved participating in the Joriad (the Truffle Competition held yearly as part of the Oregon Truffle Festival where she crushed the first round in 1.5 min and in Round 2 found the first target in about 10 seconds, but then she noticed the crowd of adoring fans and decided playing with them was more fun! Outside of truffle hunting, Ruth is a loyal office companion, a vigilant guardian of the property (especially against squirrels and neighbor cats - though she loves her brother and sister cats inside), and an avid camper-- making her the perfect blend of hardworking truffle dog and loving companion.

If you're in the PDX area and see Ruth and her Humans out in the woods, say Hello!

AND If you're interested in working on skills and crushing the first couple of Rounds at the Joriad this coming year (like Ms. Ruth!) sign up for the Workshop on Oct. 6th in Carnation, Wa- we'll be focusing on the skills needed in Round 1 and Round 2 at the Joriad- because as Ruth mentioned, having lots of cheering fans can be really fun some times! (See more here: https://truffledogcompany.com/product/joriad2024workshop/)

This week we celebrate one of the most photogenic fluffs around-- Otis the Corgi and his awesome mom, Noreen.

Named after a Grizzly Bear ( A yearly contender at Katmai Fat Bear Week), Otis is an American Corgi- 1/2 Pembroke, 1/2 Cardigan Corgi and 100% a GOOD BOY. He loves to eat--cheese is a favorite. Noreen also likes cheese- and wine, and truffles... His non edible favorite things include truffle hunting and herding sheep- although mean sheep can take a hard pass.

His favorite seasons are fall & winter (for mushroom & truffle hunting!) and his ideal day would be spent hanging out with Noreen. Noreen would agree with this too.
You can meet them (in the fluff as it were) at the upcoming Mushroom Mingle at Fast Penny Spirits NEXT Thursday, Sept 26th (Get your tix- link in Bio)- and Otis suggests a pocket full of cheese please!

Also check out the 3rd pic to see his magical levitating corgi skills.
