With winter coming to a close, that means that volcano season is right around the corner here in the Washington Cascades! Climbing opportunities are plentiful here in our backyard. What's our favorite you might ask?

It's so hard to choose, bust aside from Mount Rainier, we'd have to say Mount Baker! As one of the most heavily glaciated peaks in the lower 48, Baker has it all for veteran and new mountaineers alike!

More summits on Carstensz Pyramid!

Our private team stepped onto the summit of the highest peak in Oceania over the weekend, coming together on top and celebrating the achievement! Now safely back in base camp, the celebration continues as the team recounts a glorious day on the mountain and awaits their flight back to Timika.

The team enjoyed excellent weather, making great time up the route as they navigated engaging terrain on their way to the summit. An extra special congratulations to our climber, Scott, who successfully finished his seven summits journey!

It won't be long before the journey back home begins. But for now, we're thankful to get to share a little more time together before heading our separate ways! Nice work, team.

Climb, trek, and environmental restoration expedition in the Himalaya this October! ✨

Join us for this special opportunity to give back, climb or trek, and build lasting relationships this October in the Everest region of Nepal! Our team will have the option to trek to Gokyo Ri, and climb Lobuche and Island Peak or trek to Gokyo Ri and Everest Base Camp in parallel with environmentally sustainable cleanup efforts along the way.

Our itinerary will include visiting Sagarmatha Next - an art and experience center that uses art to promote sustainable tourism - and the opportunity to engage with local Sherpas who will be sponsored to help restore fragile ecosystems impacted by climbing and trekking.

Summits on Carstensz Pyramid! 💥

What an expedition on the highest peak in Oceania... The team had to work hard for this one, facing delays getting to the mountain but then having a glorious summit day high above the clouds! The climb started in the early morning hours, climbing in the dark through the clouds before emerging into the sunshine as they neared the top. The team all came together to celebrate on the summit after an exciting climb before turning back the way they came and descending safely back to their base camp. Congratulations, team!

A special congratulations goes out to our team members, Robin and Bjarni on completing their '7 Summits' journey today. Cheers!

Cho Oyu: the sixth-highest peak on the planet and a great introduction to climbing above 8,000-meters!

It was SO GOOD to be back on Cho Oyu in 2024. Despite challenging weather conditions, 100% of our team reached the summit and had a glorious summit day!

Often considered the easiest and most accessible of the 8000m peaks, Cho Oyu is a great way to experience high altitude climbing in the Himalayas surrounded by the mystique and intrigue of Tibet. With the utmost resources and support available to our team, we'll be joined by our top climbing Sherpas who also frequently climb with us on Everest, K2, and assist in establishing the route and setting our camps.

Coming this fall: Manaslu 🗻

Its name, which means "Mountain of the Spirit," comes from the Sanskrit word Manasa, meaning "intellect" or "soul." Madison Mountaineering is back once again on the world's eighth-highest peak!

Manaslu is a great introduction to climbing above 8,000-meters, is one of the more accessible "8,000ers," and is also a good training climb for Mount Everest. The peak resides in one of the most scenic regions of Nepal and where our base camp is situated, we acclimatize and review technical climbing skills before ever stepping foot on the mountain.

In 2024, 100% of the Madison Mountaineering team successfully reached the summit. We look forward to hopefully repeating this again in 2025!

It's go time in Indonesia! Carstensz Pyramid, here we come...

The team has all gathered together in Bali, conducted a gear check, are psyched and ready to go! Soon, the team will helicopter into their base camp where they'll do some technical skills review, acclimate, and look for a window to make their summit push.

It's good to be back on one of the least climbed of the seven summits!

No Mount Everest expedition is complete without a Puja Ceremony. After arriving in base camp, settling into our temporary home, and taking in the views out our tent doors, the team gathered together on our Puja day. The Puja ceremony is an essential step in our Himalayan expeditions. Joined by a Buddhist Lama, our team gathered around the altar, carefully crafted for a session of prayer to ask the mountain for safe passage as our team prepares to begin their acclimatization rotations. What a season it was... Most expeditions in Antarctica are unforgettable, and this season was no exception! This season was full of firsts, highlights, and broken records! Congratulations to everyone on their ascents and special shout-out to a few for their 'firsts' and world records: 🗻 On December 24, 2023, Art Muir successfully reached the summit of Mount Vinson making him now believed to be the oldest person to climb Mount Vinson. 🗻 On January 19, 2024, Craig Barlow reached the summit of Mount Vinson and completed his seven summits journey. 🗻 On January 8, 2024, Thais Herrera became the first Dominican to climb Mount Vinson. 🗻 Garrett Madison successfully reached the summit of Mount Vinson for his 27th time, co-led by Benny Lieber reaching the summit of Mount Vinson for his second time. A combined 20 clients reached the summit with Madison Mountaineering guides Garrett & Benny over three climbs during the past month. Our Story

Madison Mountaineering is the premier provider of high altitude expeditions worldwide, specializing in Mount Everest and K2. We also organize expeditions to the Antarctic’s Mount Vinson, the world’s “Seven Summits”, as well as unclimbed peaks in extremely remote regions.

Every year since 2014, we have led expeditions on all seven continents, including three of the highest mountains in the world. Detailed accounts of our most recent expeditions can be found in our Dispatches.

As a part of our guided climbs, Madison Mountaineering provides the education and training for climbers who aspire to become self-sufficient, aware and respectful of the local culture, stewards of the environment, and for whom safety is the number one priority in all climbing endeavors.
