We're proud to share that in 2024, Madison Mountaineering climbed each of the seven summits, the highest peak on each of the seven continents.

Climbing the Seven Summits is an admirable way to explore the world and test oneself on the highest peaks. In undertaking these challenges, a climber will need to be prepared to push oneself physically, mentally, and emotionally at times during the endeavor. The opportunity for personal growth in pushing through adverse mountain conditions while forming lifelong friendships with one’s team is a cornerstone of our expedition philosophy. Our goal on every expedition is to reach the summit. However, safety is our number one priority within our decision-making framework.

We feel extremely lucky to have spent time in these far-off places with incredible people, and are hungrier than ever to get back there again... Get in touch with our team to see what's happening in 2025!

‘Suddenly, and without warning, as if a veil had been lifted from our eyes, the wide Godwin Austen valley lay before us in its whole length. Down at the end, alone, detached from all the other mountains, soared up K2, the indisputable sovereign of the region, gigantic and solitary, hidden from human sight by innumerable ranges, jealously defended by a vast throng of vassal peaks, protected from invasion by miles and miles of glaciers.”

Filippo De Filippi, Karakoram and Western Himalaya 1909, 1912

Expedition leader and company founder, Garrett Madison knows firsthand how to run a successful expedition.

AN EXPEDITION IS A JOURNEY, an adventure, and the dream of a lifetime. A lengthy excursion to one of the globe’s great mountain ranges can make for lasting memories. At best, an expedition is like a long, exotic vacation—close friends, colorful travel, world-class terrain, and jubilant summit selfies. At worst it’s a seemingly endless bad trip, beset by Acute Mountain Sickness, chronic angst, and zero climbing—all topped off by a crushing credit card bill. Ideally, you’ll want to land somewhere between those two extremes. Combine thorough planning and preparation with successful ex*****on, then throw in the inevitable mishaps, and you’re guaranteed a successful climbing expedition.

When it comes to exploring the far corners of the Earth, there’s no better teacher than experience. From Antarctica to the Himalaya, Garrett Madison knows a thing or two about climbing big objectives in far-flung mountain ranges.

A big congratulations to our Ama Dablam team!

They stepped onto the summit of this jewel of Nepal’s Khumbu Valley just after 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, where they were rewarded with excellent views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and many other nearby peaks. They report that climbing conditions were excellent: clear skies and zero wind throughout their ascent of this 6,812-meter peak. About 12 hours after summiting, the whole team arrived safely back in base camp, where they enjoyed dinner and a well-earned rest.

Tomorrow they’ll begin the trek back to Lukla. Way to go, team!

Step by step: building the foundations of high altitude mountaineering! ⛰☁️

High-altitude mountaineering is a challenging and deeply rewarding pursuit. It can take years of gaining experience, preparation, training, and building a highly specialized skillset before even stepping foot on an 8,000-meter peak. If you're hearing the call of the high country on peaks like Everest or K2, here are some of the steps to get you there:

1️⃣ Develop the fitness
2️⃣ Learn the skills and equipment
3️⃣ Start with smaller peaks
4️⃣ Test yourself at altitude and acclimatize
5️⃣ Find the right guide service

Can you believe it? There's less than 6 months until the next Himalayan season! ⏳

With climbs on Ama Dablam, Lobuche, and Island Peak currently underway, Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse loom high above further up the valley. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the Himalayas! Whether you're looking to climb to the top of the world's highest peak, trek to its base camp, or somewhere in between, we have the trip for you.

Expeditions start on April 13!

Our Story

Madison Mountaineering is the premier provider of high altitude expeditions worldwide, specializing in Mount Everest and K2. We also organize expeditions to the Antarctic’s Mount Vinson, the world’s “Seven Summits”, as well as unclimbed peaks in extremely remote regions.

Every year since 2014, we have led expeditions on all seven continents, including three of the highest mountains in the world. Detailed accounts of our most recent expeditions can be found in our Dispatches.

As a part of our guided climbs, Madison Mountaineering provides the education and training for climbers who aspire to become self-sufficient, aware and respectful of the local culture, stewards of the environment, and for whom safety is the number one priority in all climbing endeavors.
