We are a network of professionals, artists, educators, and community leaders in the US and Cuba working together to create spaces for creative and cultural exchanges. Clave Cuba supports independent business or ‘cuentapropistas’ and grass roots community projects in Cuba, providing educational training in entrepreneurship and business, adult literacy, and v

ocational skills. By traveling to Cuba, you support our program, provide work for independently employed Cubans, and create opportunities to form connections not only between countries but also within communities in Cuba. Clave Cuba is a project that evolved from Bookoo Rueda, a non-profit organization founded in New Orleans with the mission of promoting Cuban culture and community development through dance.

Community, Culture & Arts in Cuba

Clave Cuba was created to be a centralized hub of information for people traveling to Cuba, offering experiential program design for groups, and focusing on independent and hosted travel for individuals and small groups, creating unique exchange programs the take people beyond the average experience on the island.

We work with Cuban entrepreneurs and community groups to offer programs that make it easy for travelers, especially US citizens and residents, to connect with instructors, artists and professionals in Cuba to learn, share and be creative building deeper understanding and connections between cultures.

Cuba is never an easy country for most travelers. Whether its because baseball is the national sport, because of its lack of resources, or that mischievous nature that is inherent in even the dance, I don’t know, but the country likes to throw curve balls. This makes it challenging to plan the way travelers from the US are accustomed to planning. With that and the political challenges, traveling to Cuba to many is something unfathomable.

Our goal is to show you that yes, you can travel to Cuba and to make sure that when you do, you have the best possible experience that takes you beyond the veil of tourism and into the heart and soul of the Cuban culture.
