The New Albany Sugar Shoppe, New Albany’s premier confectionary, resides in one of the most infamous locations in the downtown area. Parts of the building date back to the early 1800s, and in 1820, when the building served as the town's bakery, a most unimaginable thing occurred within its wooden walls: the proprietor was murdered! And this act was made even more despicable, as he was murdered in cold blood by his good friend! A friend whose history would come to show him as a serial killer and who would later meet his fate at the end of the rope of justice!

However, there is more to it's macabre history: In the 1830s, a local businessman updated the building, and he and his wife lived there.

This couple eventually had 8 children. Sadly and tragically, none, NONE, of them lived to adulthood. And the fact that, in that time period, most people died in their homes (and most funerals were held in the home), it is likely that not only did the children live there, but most probably died there too!

Does that explain why people still hear the pitter patter of little feet or children's laughter here and there even when none are present?

For years there have been reports of otherworldly goings on in this building, from strange noises to shadowy figures, to people being touched, pushed, and even scratched!

Are the tales to be believed?
