In 2008, Scott Traudt was convicted of assaulting a police officer. There was no video or physical evidence of the alleged assault, and Traudt maintained he was acting in self-defense after officers attacked him. The prosecution fought this argument by emphasizing the credibility of the officers testifying against Traudt, claiming that both had perfect disciplinary records.

However, after discovering that the prosecution had withheld evidence of one officer’s history of misconduct, Traudt was exonerated in 2023. “You just can’t quit,” he said after the ruling granting him a new trial. “Cops and prosecutors have the power to destroy someone’s life and must be held accountable.”

Sheriff Grady Judd will discuss the tragic details related to a 17-year old; Collin Griffith of Port Charlotte, murdering his mother, 39-year old Catherine Griffith, also of Port Charlotte, in Polk County (unincorporated Auburndale).

The homicide occurred Sunday evening. Collin Griffith has been arrested and is in custody.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, and will be streamed live here on the PCSO page

Cost of the class is $70; with a portion of the proceeds to go to Polk Sheriff's Charities, Inc., and the cost is non-refundable. An additional $12.50 will be charged to those who don't bring their own ammunition.

This class fulfills the requirements by the FL Department of Agriculture need to obtain a concealed weapons permit. Even though permitless-carry in Florida went into effect in 2023, there are still benefits to having a permit (reciprocity in states which don't allow for concealed carry without a permit, and permit holders are exempt from the 3-day waiting period when purchasing new fi****ms).
