Glass blowing in Murano, Italy
In Murano we watched a glass blowing session. We saw a master glass making artist construct a couple of different pieces, including a vase and a glass horse. It was fascinating to watch him sculpt the glass into various shapes with ease and precision.
In the 13th century the glassmakers of Venice were moved here to guard against devastating fires caused by their furnaces in the city, and 700 years later Murano glass is still one of the world’s most famous artisan products.
After the demonstration, we were escorted into an adjoining shop where glass works and Murano glass jewelry were sold.
