Taxi drivers in Havana....they don’t just get you from point a to point b. It’s an adventure along the way...
On the way into town, we stopped at our cabbie’s house to pick up groceries and a clean blouse.
On the way home we stopped for an impromptu dance lesson in the street.

Y'all!!! I have SO MANY great things coming up!!!! So many announcements are about to be coming through your news feed!!!

I just now got off the phone with my friend, Fabrizio, owner of Italia Sweet Italia. We are putting together an amazing Italian tour-- this time to Southeastern Italy-- Abruzzo and Puglia!
Think: Off the beaten path. Small group. Creative and intimate experiences. Making friends with locals. Immersing yourself in the culture... You know how I roll.**

The trip will be 10 days. I'm offering dates mid-May and mid- to late September (they're being finalized as we speak.) €2460 plus airfare.

The trip is just like the link below, but with our own private group.... and ME!!!

Interested? Message me to get on the first-come, first serve list. Then, when we finalize the dates, you'll be first to know! Let me know if you'd be available in May or September or both!

**All my other trips have sold out within 7-10 days of posting. Don't miss out on this one!**

August has been a month of and for me.
My favorite recent discovery is Stanford Cidery!
I can’t say enough about this place!
Amazing staff who made us feel instantly welcome. 12 options of unique ciders. A bookcase chock full of board games. A fun, friendly atmosphere. Even a guitar and a piano to play if you’re so inclined!! (I am not, but appreciated it nonetheless.)

Thanks for the great night, ....we will be back soon!!!

Saturday afternoon on Penha: another fantastically unique dining experience in Portugal!! We ate off of a stone picnic table at a cafe built in a cave on the side of a mountain, and the food was D-E-licious!!!!
I think we ordered at least two of every dish on the menu. The food kept coming and coming—not all at once—just whenever it was done. The heavy, gritty wine was served in clay jugs and we drank it heartily out of little china bowls. And the guys next to us were settled in for the afternoon—I think they were trying to see if they could drain the cafe’s supply of Super Bock.... and there was lots of spontaneous singing erupting from tables around us and photo bombs from fun, friendly strangers.

Times like this make me feel lucky to be alive in this nutty world and to have figured out how to make travel such a huge part of my life!
Afternoons like this. ❤️

One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to visit and work with other artists—to learn their traditions and techniques.
Art is such a window into the culture.

There I was, sort of mindlessly wandering around the Asheville REI after a particularly amazing mountain bike ride. Still over the moon about conquering a challenging section of trail that I honestly didn’t expect to any time soon! And this quote painted on the floor practically jumped out and bit me!
Mountain biking has changed my life. It’s given me confidence in a way that nothing else has. I’m not super great at it, but I’m getting better all the time. I have my bad days where I feel like nothing is going right, but little by little I’m gaining skills. And each time I ride, I try to do something I’ve not been able to do before. Every once in a while, I have a mind blowing day like yesterday, but more often, I’m celebrating the tiny victories.
Mountain biking teaches me to celebrate incremental improvements, to dig deep and find courage when I’m facing a challenging segment of trail, and to have gratitude for my body—not for meeting some unrealistic societal standard— but rather for being strong and healthy and allowing me to be active which makes me feel so alive!
As adults, we are often inclined to shy away from trying new things. “What if I embarrass myself?” “What if I’m not good at it?” “What if someone judges me??”
I challenge you instead to ask yourself “What if I impress myself?” “What if I find something that brings me great joy?” And “What if I can inspire someone else?”
Is there something that’s been nagging at you that you’ve avoided for fear of failure? Time to look at the opportunity—what’s the best thing that could happen if you try that thing?

We arrived at Quinta da Comenda just in time for a walk around the farm during the golden hour.... you know—when the setting sun seems to be lighting the world on magical, beautiful fire...
As we were out walking I realized I was literally grinning from ear to ear and I couldn’t stop. It was just so breathtaking and I had a moment where I realized, “This is real. This is my life! I get to do this all the time! I actually have made my own dreams come true!!!” And I think just then I actually said out loud, “I’m pretty sure I’m the luckiest person in the world.”
Wow.
But —don’t fret!!— there’s enough to go around! You can be there too!!! We are heading to Portugal again next spring! Want to get in on the action? Message me to get on our first dibs list, and you’ll hear about the trip just before it goes online.
This year’s Portugal trip sold out before it went public.
Just saying... don’t wait.
Oh—and the asparagus on the Quinta is so good that we were eating it raw! It’s truly a magical place.

I’m not sure is going to be thrilled with me posting these pics, but I just had to, because it was one of those great intercultural moments. For us Americans, sitting down to a bowl of fish—heads-and-all— can be a confusing moment. What do we do? Eat the whole thing? Pick it apart? Try to pick out those tiny little bones?
Many thanks to our friend, Patricia, for being patient with us and teaching us how to eat these delicious little jaquinzinhos! (translates to baby horse mackerel). Thank goodness for good friends!
❤️❤️ .
