Pack the car and cue the road trip! On February 28, all seven of our solar system’s other planets will appear together in the night sky in a rare alignment. You’ll have a chance to see Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Saturn with the naked eye—while Uranus and Neptune will require a telescope. This won't occur again until 2040! It’s the perfect excuse for an impromptu road trip to one of the many dark sky areas in the country. Here are a few of our favs:

For a spooky adventure this Halloween, explore California’s High Desert, where strange sightings and eerie legends await. 🌵
Start in Joshua Tree National Park, where the legendary Yucca Man, a towering cryptid, is said to haunt remote trails under the cover of night. Locals claim he’s been terrifying campers for decades—so keep your eyes open as you wander the desert.
Next, head to the Integratron, a 16-sided dome built by George Van Tassel in 1954. Van Tassel claimed he received its design from Venusians, unlocking the secrets of time travel and eternal youth. Today, it's a hub for sound baths, but visitors say the energy still feels otherworldly. 🛸
After the Integratron, stop by Pioneertown, a nearby Old West-style town originally built in the 1940s as a Hollywood movie set. But don't let the quaint charm fool you—locals tell stories of strange apparitions roaming the dusty streets, including the ghost of an outlaw who met a grisly end. At night, the wind seems to carry echoes of gunfights and barroom brawls, long after the actors and cameras have left.

Every winter, from October to February, the Monarch Butterfly Grove becomes a vibrant sanctuary for thousands of migrating monarchs. Nestled among towering eucalyptus trees, this peaceful spot along California’s central coast offers a rare opportunity to witness one of nature’s most beautiful migrations.
For decades, monarchs have traveled up to 3,000 miles from as far as Canada to escape the cold and rest here. The Pismo Beach grove is one of the largest overwintering sites in the country, offering a safe haven for these delicate creatures as they cluster together for warmth. 🌿
