Today, September 8, Hawaii Governor Josh Green today announced the reopening of West Maui on Oct. 8, as the state tries to balance economic survival, and the need for people to have jobs to help their families as they rebuild and recover.

“Many have asked when it will be the right time to reopen West Maui to visitors. There is no easy answer to this question, but I can say that if we support Maui’s economy and keep our people employed, they will heal faster and continue to afford to live on Maui,” said Gov. Green.

Beginning Oct. 8, all travel restrictions will end and West Maui will be open to visitors again, so people from Hawaiʻi and around the world can resume travel and help it begin to recover economically, according to the governor.

Governor David Ige
Public Official · 06/24/2021
Hawaiʻi is expected to reach a 60% fully vaccinated rate by July 8. Because of that, we will be able to safely relax some of the travel and social restrictions currently in place. Beginning July 8, Hawaiʻi will accept vaccination records from other states and US territories to bypass quarantine/pre-travel testing. Social gatherings will increase to 25 indoors and 75 outdoors statewide. Restaurants can also increase to 75% capacity (max 25 indoors/75 outdoors). Mahalo to everyone for doing their part to keep our community safe as we continue to begin resuming life “normally.” If you’re interested in getting vaccinated, you can find a link to register here: https://hawaiicovid19.com/vaccine/

Great News!!

As more people get vaccinated, Hawai‘i is looking to change some of its restrictions on travel based on vaccination rates. The benchmarks are as follows:

On June 15, all inter-island travel restrictions will be dropped, and travelers entering the state who have been vaccinated in Hawaiʻi may bypass quarantine without a pre-travel test.

At 60% fully vaccinated, the state will accept proof of vaccination for domestic travel.

At 70% fully vaccinated, ALL restrictions will be dropped.

Hawai‘i is currently at a 52% completed vaccination rate. I know many of us are ready to get back to “normal,” and increasing vaccination rates will help get us there more quickly.

Good evening, I am currently listening to a press conference held by the administration in the State of Hawaii government. Finally, we have some good news to share.
The Hawaii Government is allowing trans-pacific travel beginning October 15. We feel confident that this is the first step to being fully opened to our guests. We will continue monitoring the news and keep you posted of any updates.

Here are the details:
Governor David Ige this afternoon confirmed that the state’s pre-travel testing program will launch on Oct. 15, enabling travelers to get a COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arriving in Hawaii to avoid the 14-day mandatory quarantine if the test comes back negative for the virus.

Currently, testing partners include CVS and Kaiser Permanente. Lt. Gov. Josh Green said arriving passengers will remain in quarantine until they get their test result back. Travelers will be responsible for the cost of their test.

The plan was originally set to launch in August, but has already been pushed back twice. This third delay is 15 days beyond the previously announced Oct. 1 date the governor had announced last month.
