❤️ Meet Brian ❤️
Brian, is a funny and kind 15-year-old from Amarillo who loves playing video games and watching movies. Life took a drastic turn when he began experiencing severe back pain, trouble walking, and a loss of feeling in his legs. Alarmed, his mom rushed him to the ER, where a CT scan revealed a tumor pressing on his spinal cord. That same night, they were sent to Lubbock for emergency care. As they prepared for the journey, his mom told him, "This is about to start a long, long journey for us, but God's got us, and I’ll be right with you the whole time."
In Lubbock, doctors confirmed the severity of Brian’s condition with additional scans. The next day, he underwent an 8.5-hour surgery to remove the tumor. Just three hours in, they confirmed it was cancer. Days later, Brian received the official diagnosis: Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
Brian’s treatment began with chemotherapy, requiring a port to deliver the life-saving medication. His journey has been filled with challenges—constant sickness from chemo, shingles, and esophagitis, all stemming from a weakened immune system. "I’ve been told so many times that my immune system isn’t working," Brian jokes, finding humor even in tough moments. The long road has also included extended trips to Fort Worth for treatment, far from the family’s Amarillo support system.
Despite the hardships, there have been victories. Brian began receiving TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) through his port, which helped stabilize him during chemotherapy. And through it all, Brian and his family have found strength in their faith, each other, and the support of Children’s Miracle Network.
Brian was introduced to CMN through Becky, the Child Life Specialist at NWTH, during his first round of chemo. Thanks to donor support, CMN has helped ease the family’s financial concerns. “Thank you,” Brian’s mom says. “The bills are insurmountable, but the burden has been lifted so much.”
Brian keeps his spirits up by staying connected with his best friend and enjoying his favorite video games. "Keep your friends close," he advises, a reminder of the importance of support during difficult times.
