Addiction Connections Resource The co-founders of ACR joined together because of a common experience, the devastation of addiction.
(8)

ACR connects with substance abuse prevention programs, addiction treatment centers, halfway houses, support groups, therapists and other persons and/or organizations involved with the initial and extended treatment of substance abuse in an effort to formulate a continuum of care that adequately addresses the holistic needs of the substance abuse population. ACR continues to identify the multifacet

ed needs of the substance addicted population and incorporates this knowledge in service provision. ACR will serve as an advocate for the addict/alcoholic, his or her family, and the substance abuse field in general.

Today would have been Emily’s 34th birthday. While we miss her deeply, we choose to remember the laughter, love, and light she brought into our lives. Though her time here was cut short, countless memories continues to inspire us every day. Rest easy, Emily. You are forever in our hearts.

Harford County Recognizes National Overdose Awareness Day; September Events Planned for Recovery and Su***de Prevention Month

Harford County Government and other organizations around the county will illuminate buildings in purple starting Saturday, August 31 and during September in recognition of National Overdose Awareness Day and National Recovery and Su***de Awareness Prevention Month.

Purple symbolizes recovery and during September Harford County residents are encouraged to light their homes and businesses in purple to show support for those on their journey to recovery. On Friday, September 20, residents are encouraged to wear purple to show their support for those in recovery.

Local agencies and non-profits have collaborated on a month-long social media campaign featuring inspirational recovery stories, treatment resources, and event information. The planned events aim to reduce stigmas surrounding mental health and substance use disorders, share resources, and promote the message that no one is alone on their journey.

Event organizers include Harford County Department of Housing and Community Services and its subdivision, Harford County Office of Drug Control Policy, Harford County Health Department, Harford County Office on Mental Health, and other mental health and recovery partners. A listing of planned Recovery Month events can be found at https://www.harfordcountymd.gov/RecoveryMonth.

“Recovery Month serves as a significant opportunity for our community to come together to raise awareness about substance abuse and recognize those who have overcome addiction,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said. “I am proud that Harford County has a network of partnerships to help those struggling with addiction or behavioral health issues get the help they need. If you know someone who needs help call 1-800-NEXT-STEP.”

Today, we remember those we’ve lost to overdose. Their lives mattered, and so do the memories we hold of them. Honor your loved one in a way that feels meaningful to you—whether it’s lighting a candle, sharing a photo, or simply taking a moment of reflection.

Light a candle in their memory. Share a story about them. Keep their spirit alive.

Grief can feel isolating, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Connecting with others who have experienced similar loss can be a source of strength and healing. Share your story, listen to others, and find comfort in knowing you are understood.

Join a support group. Talk to a trusted friend. Healing happens together.

International Overdose Awareness Day: Remember, Act, and Save Lives

Today, we honor the lives lost to overdose and support those impacted by addiction. Overdose can affect anyone, but together, we can make a difference.

Know the Signs: Unresponsiveness, slow breathing, pale skin—these could indicate an overdose.
Carry Naloxone: This life-saving medication can reverse opioid overdoses. B
reak the Stigma: Addiction is a health issue, not a moral failing. Let’s support each other with compassion.
Advocate for Change: Push for better access to treatment and harm reduction services in your community.

Let’s raise awareness and work together to save lives.
