I feel sooooo proud of myself for delivering this world class trip to italy on the Amalfi coast 🇮🇹 ✨ ! There’s so many sleepless nights , times I had to lock myself in a room away from my family to work on putting food on the table and it feels GOOD seeing those sacrifices pay off!

This trip as any others presented serious challenges , required constant adjustment$ , and cost a gazillion 💰 but as I sit in my room after all my guests have departed—reflecting on what I just mastered ….aint no holding me back now !

We’ve only been in Vietnam 🇻🇳 for 3 days and it already feels like we’ve been together for 2 weeks creating memories , eating all the good food and exploring this beautiful country !!! We flew into Hanoi , now we’re enjoying Ha Long Bay before flying to Hoi an where the adventure continued ✨

I’ve had many conversations with people who wish to move out of the U.S. 🇺🇸 and while the conversation usually focus on the actual process and where they would “fit in” the truth is what determines if you can really do it is whether you’re able to give up some of the first world comforts that the US provides. Also make sure you’re used to your 10:00 am appointment showing up anywhere between 10-1pm (or the next day).

-Hot and cold running water. (Some days you turn on the faucet and there’s no water or the water pressure is …barely usable).

Solution: water cistern, making sure you always have reserves, water tanks

- Black outs: (or load shedding): a lot of countries have to cut electricity for a couple of hours in some areas to accommodate other areas especially during periods of high energy use. (For example yesterday here in Sint Maarten we had 2 of those lasting about 90 mins each).

Solution: invest in solar panels, power inverter/stations , off-grid power setups.

- High speed internet 🛜: Most places don’t have the same type of speed and reliability that you may be used to in the U.S. and if there’s no power—-no internet.

Solution: Starlink provides high speed reliable satellite 🛰️ internet.

- No Amazon, target, Walmart or convenient delivery of online orders the way you’re used to it.

Solution: 3rd party relays provide a U.S. address where all your shipments 📦 go and they consolidate your packages and forward to you. You pay either a monthly fee and/or pay a price per weight.

While you may look at prices being cheaper , the quality of life you’ll enjoy being outside the US, the Beautiful Black folks you’ll see everywhere etc ….make sure you have a REAL conversation with yourself and factor in these things listed here and the cost of the comfort as you make the decision.

I remember the young days when my credit score was like in the 500’s because I was young and dumb, I never understood what the hell it took to get to the 800-850 range until I started doing these things below. I’m posting this in the hopes that someone reading it will benefit from these little tips and change their lives too!

1. The very first thing I did was taking the decision to not throw out money out the window by paying for things I had control over : I decided I would never get another parking ticket or anything that would set me back …discipline!

2. I setup autopay for the minimum payment on any credit cards I had debt on to make sure I never miss a payment or get hit with a late fee.

3. I did the snowball effect to pay off credit cards with highest balances first , I took advantage of balance transfers when I could.

4. I tried to pull in any extra $ I could to put towards any debts (you can do Uber or LEGAL side hustles you can think of)

5. Rakuten is your friend !!! With any shopping you do (online or in store) check to see if you can earn cash back with Rakuten (use my link to sign up and we both get a little bonus: https://www.rakuten.com/r/RICHAR19092?eeid=44747 )

6. If you have missed payments or don’t have long enough credit history : find someone with stellar credit and no debt that you can pay a little something to add you to some credit cards as an authorized user—while they won’t give you access to spend on the card, you’ll benefit from their credit history and 100% payment record: this is called a credit line …..I do this for a fee so hit me up 😉

7. Discipline: while you don’t necessarily need to stop enjoying the little things you love doing (brunch 🥞 , travel 🧳 , shopping 🛍️ etc prioritize and do it smarter!)

Having hosted too many trips to count and having hosted thousands of travelers around the world, here are some tips to avoid anyone from scamming you or taking your money without providing the experience they promised:

1. Book with a reputable company that has documented reviews (not just word of mouth).

2. Make sure that the company has an actual full website—not just a landing page with detailed info on the company and staff.

3. NEVER book with anyone who doesn’t accept credit cards and although bank transfer payments may be less, pay by credit card 💳! The fees to protect your investment are worth it on the long run.

4. Pay attention to the communication about your trip, if you have questions —they should be handled swiftly, you should have direct ways to reach trip organizers.

5. Always book your travel insurance as soon as you make your trip deposit. I see it too many times people wait until last minute to buy travel insurance when they’re investing thousands of dollars on a trip.
